Sorry if this is on the wrong board, feel free to move it if it is!:goodvibes

So here is my situation: DF and I will be honeymooning in WDW in July at AKL. Our wedding is on July 7th and we planned on flying out the next morning and checking in at AKL in the early evening for 8th-17th. I booked these dates, but am now trying to get airfare for a decent price out of PDX. Jetblue has a pretty decent rate compared to others I have looked at, but the issue is with timing. My options are:
Depart PDX at 12:20 am July 8th (thus negating a full "wedding night") and arriving in Orlando at 1:16pm or departing July 9th at 12:20 am (thus cutting off one day of our honeymoon because of needing to get back to work) arriving at 1:16pm (this flight is also $75 cheaper per ticket).

I know this seems like a no brainer, leave later, have a morning to sleep in after the wedding and pay less money, but I also know DF and I will just be antsy to get going the whole next day and would love to spend the extra day at Disney. If I chose to switch to the flight on the 9th would it be easy to bump back my arrival date with AKL? If I could swing an extra day could they just move my dates from 8-17th to 9-18th? :headache: I feel like either way I am missing out on something I want. I am also debating paying almost $150 more per ticket on a dif. airline just to get the times I want to fly, is that ridiculous? :confused3 Thanks for any opinions, even just typing this is helping!

Just stay up and fly down on the 8th like planned. Then that would still be your first night sleeping:flower3: together as a married couple. You could even get a great start of it at AKL for an early turn-in.

Here are our experiences:

Our friends also were married in July and honeymooned at DW. They had a 6am flight on the day after their wedding & reception which ran very late into the evening. They headed right to the parks upon arrival and between the heat and their exhaustion from lack of sleep, they did not enjoy their first day or night at Disney at all.

We were married in May and took a 5pm flight on the day following our wedding. We stayed at a hotel on our wedding night, and got to sleep in that next morning. Then we went home and packed for our honeymoon. We arrived at Disney refreshed, enjoyed our first night at Disney and enjoyed all of our days in the park.

I would opt for the flight on the 9th and give yourself a day to relax and recoup after the wedding. You'll be so busy with all of the wedding details during the week leading up to the wedding that you'll be happy that you have that day in between to unwind and to concentrate on preparing for the honeymoon.

Get yourself a nice hotel room for the night of your wedding and that way, you'll get to have a special wedding night too!

I would go on 8th you will still be high on your wedding, I wouldnt delay getting to AKL:thumbsup2

To me it is worth extra $ to get flight times you want. I would most likely spend the extra $150 each for better flight times.

I have to agree with Laura. I would rather fly at the times I wanted and spend the extra $...especially for my honeymoon. But only you know what your $ situation is, and it's important to feel comfortable about that.

If your stay at AKL is already booked, it's hard to say if you'd have a hard or an easy time moving the dates, however, I think it's very possible to do.

But, forget all that, you're going to have your honeymoon at AKL! Nothing could be better than that. And congrats on your upcoming marriage.

We honeymooned in Orlando and had to get up for our flight at 5:30 a.m. the day after our wedding. We were staying in a hotel, and I found even though I was exhausted, I couldn't sleep that night anyway, so it worked out fine, and I liked getting on with the honeymoon without waiting. We didn't do any parks when we got there though, just relaxed by the pool and turned in early for an early start the next day. For your honeymoon, I agree that you should splurge on getting what you want, when you want, in terms of flights (or anything else), as long as it is in your budget.

I'd recommend checking out the flights out of Sea-Tac. If you wanted, you could just drive to Seattle after the wedding and spend a night in a hotel there (to have your wedding night) and then leave in the morning on a morning flight. This is all assuming you have some flexibility in which airline you fly.

I just want to say that I am getting married on July 7 too! :woohoo: We are flying out right after the reception so we have our first night at Disney (GF). We won't arrive until close to 12mid but I'm sure we'll be so excited :cloud9: we won't be tired. Best wishes to you! :bride:

I'd say flyout the first night, but be prepared to sleep when you get there and not try to go straight to the parks for the whole day. You'll probably be too excited to sleep anyway. What time is your wedding at?

I would spend the money to fly out after brunch. That's what we did 8 years ago. The hotel gave us a great suite for our wedding night, we woke up at 10:00 and had brunch then took a limo to the airport for a 1:00 flight. This was back when you didn't have to get there until an hour before the flight. I would not give up my wedding night for anything. Really it has nothing to do with the action but just laying there together relaxing and talking about how wonderful it all was. The memories will be much more inportant to you in the long run than saving a couple hundred dollars. Savor th moment don't rush through it. Trust me you will waste much more money than that in your married life. And you would be surprised how much cash people will shove in your purse and your dh's pockets at the wedding. We got over $1500. That's why I carried a little handbag with me. Make your maid of honor hold onto it.
