What would you do? update post #18

Would the casino have "come after" her in the meantime?? It was their mistake. They were responsible for rectifying it.

My guess is that they would have. They had her check waiting for her so they knew that it was that transaction that caused the cashier to be off. I would hope that they would call and explained the situation to the customer before contacting any legal authorities. Anyway, my friend feels horrible. She said that she feel uncomfortable going back there but on the other hand, if she doesn't (she goes a few times a week) she feels like she's acting guilty. I really do feel bad for her. She's the kind of person that takes things like this very personally. :sad2:

I think it is awful they made her feel uncomfortable for their mistake, their mistake which inconvenienced her by her having to go back to the casino to rectify it.
I would have been very offended, and told them so, and I probably would have gotten very indignant about it.

As someone who also frequents casinos, I'd feel exactly how she feels. I think maybe the casino needs to do a "make-right" for her patronage.

Perhaps a nice letter from the manager so that she feels better about going back.

I'd feel horrible if I felt I was treated poorly or even differently for trying to do the right thing. Does she have a casino host she can speak with on this matter?

ITA and I wouldn't have spent any money in there if they acted that way.

That's not true. I was at a casino in Kansas City and went to play on a machine. I noticed that someone had walked away and left coins in the tray (this was before they all went to using tickets). I called over an attendant to see what I should do. They told me that if the person walked away and left it, it was their loss and the finder's gain. I picked the coins up and put them in a cup just in case the person came back. They didn't so I ended up using them.

Depends on the state. In PA, it is true. There was a story on the news a few months ago where someone picked up a cash out slip from the floor and went to cash it in. The tracked her down before she left and she was arrested. They tracked it down by the slot card # on the slip that it wasn't hers. Same thing happened to someone who cashed out money that was accidentally left in a machine. It is considered theft in PA.

Exactly what I would do! Letters often work. Make sure she includes all her particulars so they can look her up in their system (I presume she's a slot club member?) and see she's a regular patron.

I know that it's theft here in IL to take a ticket that isn't yours or to use credits left in a machine but when you say that they tracked her down based on the slot club card, did the person that lost it report it and that why they tracked it?

I often play on my DH's or DD's slot club card to earn them points. As a matter of fact, I won a jackpot when I had DH's card in the machine last year and it wasn't a problem. I was told that they just have to override the computer program to print up the tax documents. When we go to Ho-Chunk in the Wisconsin Dells, DH uses my card to play on since he never signed up for one. When I asked if we could both use them at the same time, the player club rep said that it's fine but I wouldn't be able to use "Free Play" while another card is being used in a different machine.

Now I'm nervous that someone might accuse me of trying to steal a ticket. :scared1:
