What would you do?(OKW GV related)

We own at VWL but would like to spend 5 days at the end of August 2007 in an OKW GV. Reading some threads about how incredibly hard it is to get a GV seven months out has me worried.

Do you think I should book VWL now (it would have to be a 2-br, plus a studio, there's 10 of us going) but then try to change over to the GV in January?

We really want OKW, pretty much for the GV. If we can't get the GV I think I would prefer to show them a different resort (for the sole reason DMIL has stayed with us already at OKW, which we all love, but thinking she might like a different resort for a change).

BTW, the GV would be 45 pts per night, the 2 rooms at VWL would be 47.

I would book your home resort now, then if here is availablility at OKW for the GV switch the ressie at the 7 month window. It is best to be sure you have accomodations.

I think you've got a great chance to get your GV at the end of August. I've never been of the opinion that they are "incredibly hard to get." Just remember, there's lots of members that want no part of a GV because of the high point requirements.

I don't mean to brag, but I'm checking into one of OKW's GVs tomorrow. We booked it for 9 nights, and did it 9 months out. October is a lot more in demand than late August, I think, so I predict you'll get the room.

FYI...we were unable to get the OKW GV we wanted when we tried to book it day-by-day at the 7 month mark, but it was for October (during F&W.) When we tried to book, the weekend days were available, as were two of the weekdays (not consecutive) but the remaining 3 weekdays were not available. We chose not to waitlist, but had a great trip in a 2-bedroom and a studio instead.

I booked a GV at OKW approximately 4 months out. The exact dates were August 26 - 30th 2006.

We want a OKW GV for late September 2007, but we are going to go ahead and book a 2BR+Studio at SSR. I can't believe there is only a 4 point difference in those senerios.

I actually am kind of torn...I love SSR. So we could stay in a GV and all be toghether or DH and I stay in the studio and let all the kids stay with their parents in the 2BR. Hummm. Something to consider.

DEFINITELY book what you can at the 11 month window and then call the SECOND your 7 month window opens to try for the OKW GV. We stayed in one last year and it was awesome! (We are members at OKW so were fortunate to get 11 month window head start!)

I got a GV at OKW by waitlisting at the 7 month window. I did have reservation at VWL in case the GV didn't come thru for us. When I tried to make the reservation for a Sunday to Friday - the only night we couldn't get was the Sunday. In September, the reservation came thru for us. We were on the waitlist from April to September. For us the point difference was 90 points! I had a 2 bdrm and a 1 bdrm booked at VWL for Nov 12 - 17.

As others have mentioned, I would book at your home resort at 11 month and then try to change at 7 month and even get on the waitlist.
