....and have hundreds of points that I need to use before **. A tough family year allowed us to forget - now what to do? First time since purchasing in 1992 that this has happened. As I see it my options are:

- pick available dates for DVC properties and try to rent directly on Ebay or Craig's List
- turn points over to RCI for future week usage (not really fond of most locations)
- travel ourselves to a DVC location or Disneyland
- find available dates and give to friends for a DVC location

Anything else we didn't think mention? Any other places you have rented besides Ebay and Craig's List?

Thanks in advance

Matt

MS has been know to make a once in a lifetime exception to a missed banking deadline.

If it's hundreds of points, I would call MS and ask them to make an exception. They have been known to allow this, but they will also make note of it in the record and it would be unlikely it would be allowed a second time.

Good luck! :)

1) You are allowed a once-per-contract-lifetime exception.
2) Now, is the time to call MS and exercise it.

.....we're talking * points - so certainly worth the call. Should I ask for someone in particular? Best time to call?

I have wasted hours this weekend (after we realized our mistake) and have spoken to Member's Services many times explaining my dilemna - no rep at Disney mentioned this option.

Does our contract say somewhere that there is a one time exception? Where would I look?

Wow - this could be my saviour! Thank you

Anyone at Member Services should be able to help you, and if not just ask to speak to a Supervisor.

details as to number of points, use year, etc are not allowed as may be construed as seeking to rent or transfer and have been edited out. Thank you.

does ebay allow you to rent points? is it done by renting points, or by renting an actual reservation?

No, this is an unpublished once-in-a-lifetime-double-secret-probation piece of *magic* that many have been granted over the years. I would definitely call MS again and ask for some consideration. It is not something that can be supported by anything in our documents so members are definitely at the mercy of MS when this has been offered, but it's well worth it for a good number of points.

Good luck! :)

You could also rent them out using David's service (postings here on the DIS)

Couldn't you also turn them into DCL vacation points and book a cruise a year or two out?

Of course, the MS exception is your best bet. Grovel, apologize, and ask for forgiveness.

Three flights already this week and all day meetings. I just finished the details of a renter found locally through a friend. When working on that reservation we got a pretty cranky member services rep so decided not to ask the banking question. Will try again on Wednesday. Now I know exactly how many points are available to bank.

Unfortunately there is a "four month rule" that states when you are within four months of your use year end date you can not book anything other than DVC properties, Disneyland Hotel rooms (not Disney World, however) and RCI rooms/weeks. If banking is not possible and renters hard to find, the RCI option might get the best bang for the buck.

Hmm when I booked our december trip.. I found out I missed my banking deadline.. and I didnt think we had any to bank but we had 78 points to bank.. the CM put me on hold, came back and said they were credited to the account! I thought that was awesome.

Hope it works out for the OP.

We have missed our banking deadline twice in the past, and dvc offered to reinstate them both times. We chose not to take advantage of the offers and were able to use them both times. I was always under the impression the dvc reps offered this once in a lifetime offer pretty readily.

Was able to solidify a five day one bedroom rental then Disney banked theorist into my 2010 use year. It was well worth the effort. The member services rep did stress it was a one time exception.

Thank you Disboards for your help!

Now - what to do with the points....... :)

Wow! this option is a good to know and will have to keep this in the back of my mind as a get out of jail free card. Thanks!

....did not offer the suggestion, but knew exactly what I was asking for, went to a supervisor, and about 8 minutes later came on and the task was done. I'm sure they were looking up our account to make sure that we had not done this previously. As noted earlier this felt like "satandard fare" - something they will always do - at least once.

So glad you got to take advantage of the "secret one time super deal". i wonder if maybe you had too many points when you first called to trigger the offer?
