Just wanted to upddate...
Turns out that my DD was not the one who tore the coat. It was torn already. The other girl had torn it the week before.
So NOW...we're going to tie a special ribbon on the zipper pull so that DD can distinguish her coat from the other one. Thanks for the replies.

Problem solved, issue over. Sorry some of you took offense to the nature of the thread. Guess you can't make everyone happy...

Glad to see this update All's good in the daycare world now. Just think of this one as good practice--with kids you will have a myriad of other tricky little things to navigate as the years go on.
As far as someone taking offense--it can't be avoided on the DIS no worries.

Nice to see the others girls parents were honest. This worked out for the best. The ribbon seems like a good solutinon.

Honestly I'd give my DD's matching coat to the other little girl and buy my DD a new coat, this way you make amends for the rip in the coat (although I don't think it's all your responsibility) and your DD gets a new coat which will end the coat mix-up

Oops, never mind. The ribbon on the zipper sounds like a great idea!
