What would you do if your cruise missed CC?

I have a question for a poster who seemed to be trying to put a good face on it--if it was too chilly and windy to enjoy the pools, and indeed to windy to dock at CC, why was your child already slathered up w/ sunscreen?

Sometimes people do this to save time. And besides, you can still get a sunburn in overcast weather.

I know this is off topic, but why is it that some people feel the need to get their little digs in at people over trivial stuff, like above? Sorry, I'm really not trying to be mean or start anything but I'm almost to the point of not being a part of these message boards anymore because of posts just like this.

And when you spend thousands of dollars on a cruise, spend a whole year getting excited about it, you spend hours reading these board about how WONDERFUL CC is, then the time comes and the experience is ruined, well, if you aren't disappointed then hats off to you. Yes you'll find other things to do (we did), but geez, it's ok and normal to be disappointed!

I would shrug my shoulders, grab my book, and start reading. If my DS10 decided to whine about it, I'd remind him how lucky he is to actually be on a Disney vacation with lots of alternatives.

When missing one day on a private island is enough to make me cry, I will begin smacking my head on the nearest wall. Think of all the hunger, poverty, and sickness in this world. Where does missing a day on a private island even come close to such tragidies????

I'm sorry but I truly believe as a generation and population we have become horribly spoiled.

How many people can afford such a wonderful oppurtunity to spend time with their family?? Why let the little things like dinner rotations and missing a planned excursion or not getting a spa treatment ruin an entire vacation??? We are lucky. Enjoy every moment of health and prosperity that you have because tomorrow could be different.

Last point, what will our children think when truly bad things happen if we overreact so completely over these small items

I'm sorry to be so lengthy and preachy. Forgive me.

If your cruise misses CC, you are not likely to be missing a sunny pleasant beach day. We missed CC on our first cruise, it was a cold and windy day, it would not have been a pleasant day on the island. We were disappointed, but it was a reason to go back.

This was several years ago when before the Magic did 4 day cruises. Our CC day became a day at sea, the next morning, which should have been our day at sea, they tried again with no luck. So instead we got a day in Key West. With the weather what it was, we had a more pleasant time strolling Key West in our jackets than we would have had on a cold and windy beach.

Wow littlemuffin what a reaction to some of these posts. My DS10 was very sad and I didn't blame him. We reminded him of all the fun things we were going to do and he got over it quickly. He absolutely never saw us overreact, we just said oh well in front of him.

I find this funny that you decided to get in little digs right after Chrisnsteph said something about people getting in their little digs.

You're reading an awful lot into my post and others if you assume we equate this with a tragedy.

It was disappointing to be sure. We had been told many times CC would be the highlight of our trip, and it's disappointing to miss it.

It however did not ruin our day, our cruise, or our family vacation. I said before, there are a lot worse things then being stuck on a luxury cruise liner.

For starters the post from Chrissteph(sorry if this is wrong) wasn't up yet when I read the posts.

Ok. I'll agree that I may have overreacted some. :guilty: :guilty:

But I think it has a lot to do with the number of threads I have read today about people's expectations not being met.

I'm sorry. I'm sure my DS10 would be disappointed also. The diasappointed posts weren't the ones that got to me.

Again I'm sorry. Just my point of view. They are like other things we all have one or at times can be one. :Pinkbounc

LOL
Always have a backup plan in mind. Luckily, when you miss a port they add many onboard activities to make up for the loss.

Personally, I'd check in on any last-minute spa openings and/or spend time in the Rainforest. I'd also see a movie or a show if possible. Above all, I'd spend more time relaxing doing things such as strolling the decks, taking naps outdoors, reading a book, playing cards or a game with DH, etc. These are all things we do on the days we don't disembark for ports we're not interested in (like Nassau). Sure, I'd be disappointed, but I'd make the most of it. It's just a chance you take.

LittleMuffin, I am not selecting you personally since many people feel similarly to you and your post is pretty to the point. I'd just like to suggest that it is absolutely normal to be totally bummed out to have a huge disappointment. And I think its just as normal to want to have your peers hear your disappointment and just say, wow, that is such a shame. No one wants to be so-called put in their place when they are feeling lousy over something that makes someone feel lousy! One of the other problems with the hunger in the world theory is this: it could be suggested that for those that feel that strongly in that direction, that they should not cruise but rather stay home, volunteer in their closest inner city slum for a week and donate the money they would have spent to a starving, impoverished third world country. Its very disappointing to miss CC. And thats ok! And you're still a good person if you feel that way!

OK! I apoligized.

However, I do spend approximately 15-20 days a year working with those who are more underpriviledged than myself. I also have had personal tragedy that makes these types of problems seem less serious.

As I said in my last post, I'm sorry about stating my views so strongly. But just like everyone else on this thread I have a right to my views.

I'm sorry if you don't like them.

Was I disappointed when we missed Castaway Cay? Absoulutely (I even shed a few tears). Did it ruin our cruise? Absolutely not! I guess we were a little more prepared than some, after reading these boards and knowing it was a possibility. The weather was not cooperative at all, and I had figured the chances wouldn't be good with the rough seas. But I have to commend Captain Tom for trying as much as he did, and the activities staff for coming up with a revised edition of the Navigator so quickly. Contrary to what I had read about the 1/15 cruise, I heard no one whine or complain around us. Everyone we encountered made the best of it and moved on. I had hoped to buy several souvenirs on Castaway Cay, but on the bright side I now have more $$$ for our next cruise. I had wanted to lay in the sun and tan, but that wasn't even going to happen on board (too cloudy and windy)--instead, I had a wonderful lunch with my husband and two other families (who I learned so much from). My DS10 spent the day in the kids club doing activities that he had missed earlier in the week. My DS13 ordered room service and watched another stateroom movie. It was still a great day, just not what we expected, that's all. After that, we rebooked for October 2006, with TWO stops at Castaway Cay to make up for it!!!

We're on October 14th too!!! I randomly chose any date to get the rebooking discount, but now the 2 CC stops have become the main draw. ***And bonus*** it looks like our kids might have two days off of school that week as well (less days missed from school and less homework). So I'm pretty sure we'll stay with those dates. Now, I'm just trying to figure out if we'll be able to save enough to upgrade our room before they sell out completely.

I went to a cooking class that they trhew together at the las minute and really enjoyed myself. I must say that when this type of thing happens they have back up plans, or at least did on our cruise.

Although I think CC is a very beautiful place it wouldn't bother me one bit if we missed it. Sorry don't flame me - but I would have been happier with an extra day at sea than the day at Castaway. It just didn't do much for me - as a red head (natural lol ) I can't stay in the sun for a whole day without dipping myself in spf 45 and even though we had an umbrella I just kept thinking I should probably go back to the ship. The food to me wasn't that great either - but that is just my own opinion. DH and DS's really enjoyed it and loved being out in the water. Our cruise was Nov 27 -Dec 3 and I thought the water was just a tad too cool for me.

That's great! We're really looking forward to the ports of call, too...especially CC. I recently switched our stateroom from a category 4 to a category 7 and saved $1000. Yeah!!!

Because I slathered him with sunscreen before we even left our stateroom that morning. Do you have kids? You don't wait until you're on the beach or by the pool to put on the sunscreen! And even if you don't end up swimming, it's always wise to wear sunscreen when you're going to be outside.

It always cracks me up when someone says "a bad day on DCL beats a good day at the office" as this poster did. I mean, c'mon-- you don't pay thousands of dollars to spend a day at the office. Do you? My expectations kind of go up with the price.

Yes, we were very disappointed to miss the crown jewel of DCL. But I didn't make even a sad face to a crew member or blame the captain, so for heavens sake at least let us complain here!

Good grief.

Were you HONESTLY questioning me about the sunscreen/windy issue?

I will be disappointed if we miss Castaway Cay next week.
No, I would not die.
No, it is not as bad as other personal tragedies that I have experienced.
Yes, I am blessed to be able to afford the cruise in the first place.
Still, I will put a positive spin on things and have a ball anyway.

I think Castaway Cay is very pretty, but I am not a beach person. I go on the island for a little while then go back to the ship, it's really nice the ship has very few people on it, and you can do what ever you want!! :cool1:
