What would you do if your cruise missed CC?

Ours did last week. I wanted to cry. Our first cruise, and who knows when the next one will be. Very very sad! :sad1: :sad1:

Having gone thru alot over the past year I doubt that I would have that reaction but would we be disappointed...of course. We don't go to the beaches on the other stops so that is our only beach time. The kids would be disappointed but I would quickly remind them that they are lucky to be stuck on the Mickey Boat. We would head right to the Mickey pool since they would already have their suits on & enjoy a couple hours there. I would pick up a new navigator from GS and find out what show would be that afternoon or which movie they may want to watch to get a break out of the sun. Sitting on a lounge chair by the pool I would then be thankful that the day would be relaxed and without the rush that we have always experienced from 3-6. I would finish our packing so that was taken care of & enjoy our last day on the ship. :) Life is too short.

oh my, i would be extremely disappointed. if i ever went on a disney cruise again, CC would be 50% of my motivation to go (the other half being the fabulous food!). It was definitely the most memorable part of the cruise for me. :sunny:

I've been there twice, but I'm telling you, I'd still be SO BUMMED OUT!!!! I love doing the Wild Side excursion. :sad2:

We didn't make it on one, in fact not only did we miss CC, but our 7 night cruise was turned into a 4 1/2 night cruise (can't count departure night because we left after midnight!) We enjoyed ourselves anyway! Had it been a regular seven night and we missed, I would have LOVED the extra day at sea..... I would have seen if they had any spa ressies open, gotten some last minute gifts, gotten a bit of a head start on packing, seen a movie I had put off, taken a nap on deck 10, get nice walk around deck 4, drink a few Bahama Mamas....you get the idea! You are really only at CC for a short period of time, and although it is nice, I would hardly consider my cruise ruined because of it!

I promise you won't die!! :teeth: You just gotta roll with the waves!

Eat. Or sleep. Or maybe both!

But not at the same time.

Sam

Missed it once. My first cruise. Cried for hours. Then i went and tried to enjoy Nassau as much as possible.

We missed CC-- and it certainly contributed to our overall disappointment, but dying wasn't an option. ;) I looked at the water and thought about throwing myself overboard, but being fish food seemed worse somehow. Plus, the captain went on and on about how they don't make that decision lightly, etc. etc.... I kind of felt sorry for him.

Actually, because of these boards it lessened the blow for us on Friday. When we were getting close the winds were really picking up. I told my wife I didn't think we would be able to dock. Sure enough the ship stopped, and my wife noticed the dock workers walked away. We decided right then to head for the pool and pick out a good spot. Right after we sat down the announcement came and the pool areas started filling up. So thankfully by knowing ahead of time that CC is missed on occasion it wasn't as big of a surprise. thanks again Disboards! :firefight

I would spend a great day sitting out on the deck, i nthe sun by the pool, with a nice cool drink and enjoy my last day on the ship!

Castaway Cay is nice, but (in my opinion) once you've been to the beach, you've been to the beach no matter where it is!

hey all...sooooo sorry this cruise missed Castaway Cay. I do understand your disappointment. As one who has missed *TWICE* of three DCL Cruises, we understood this was the best decision for passangers and crew. Even if we would have been able to dock...time on the island would have been windy and wet.

booked for our fourth...already dreaming about our fifth (just DW and me).

I'd do exactly what we did when we missed it on our first cruise. Enjoy the cruise and plan to cruise again some day. It took two years to come back but it was worth it. We just did cruise #6 and #7 and #8 are booked!

That's exactly what I did. DS was already slathered with sunscreen and in his swimsuit, so what a great option!

Problem was, they closed the pool after maybe 10 minutes of play. Now I have a wet (and cold.... the temps were quite chilly and it was very windy too) and disappointed 4 year old. It wasn't exactly a nice, relaxing day by the pool with a fruity drink even though I tried to make it so.

I would enjoy another day at sea! I would not die at all....but I have been there 4 times now.

First, I've never been on a cruise that missed CC, so this is a hypothetical for me. Second--the past two DCL cruises for us have been in January,a dn didn't swom at CC anyway. We should all have been forewarned that it could happen, at CC or any stop. I have a question for a poster who seemed to be trying to put a good face on it--if it was too chilly and windy to enjoy the pools, and indeed to windy to dock at CC, why was your child already slathered up w/ sunscreen? I think if one of my cruises could not dock at CC, I'd see what time an extra movie might be added at the Buena Vista theater, or some other daytime clothed event, understanding that not being able to dock tells me it isn't great weather for pool activities. My DS-9, would probably get an extra $10 out of me for quartermasters. Who knows, maybe he and I would play cards, or even enjoy one of the disny movies on the stateroom TV. Or eat ourselves into a stupor.

DW would likely nap. It is a vacation, a time to rest and relax. DW and I each bring a couple paperbacks when we cruise--I read an entire 500 page Michael Crichton novel on the 4 night Wonder last month, some on deck, some in a stateroom, some ina comfy place to sit in a lounge. Walking three miles around deck 4, 9 laps, also was a healthy alternative.

I just think on some threads where folks complain of not enough to do that those people might simply not be "cruise people", and I wish them better success with other vacation choices in the future. As for me, even with disappointing weather last month, I got to put to the test the theory that a bad day on DCL beats a good day at the office--and indeed it does.

If it were sunny, I'd find a spot in the sun to enjoy a whole uninterrupted coffee and read.

If it were raining, I'd find a spot under cover to enjoy a whole uninterrupted coffee and read.

Oh and I'd probably mumble a few words of complaint under my breath but then I'd remind myself to stop because I wouldn't want my kids to grow up thinking it's normal to complain about things over which they have absolutely no control. :sunny:

Disneyfalcon -- I DID cry! I was mostly sad for my DD10 who hadn't ever seen Castaway Cay before but I was also sad for me :sad1:
I was a little happier though that the captain tried THREE times to get us there -- did you hear that was the first time is SIX years that he's tried three times to get there for the guests? I was disappointed, but safety is #1 (unfortunately!) I told DH that now we have yet another reason to book another Disney cruise!

Stacy

Disneybride we said the same thing - another reason to go back. My son 10 was very upset also! I was glad we hung around and tried again but we kinda thought that might have been for show. We had a feeling they knew right away we wouldn't make it in that day.
I heard the activities guy say that was the first time in six years that they had tried 3 times. I made a funny face to myself when he said it, because I thought the cruisers from the middle of January who didn't make it said he tried 3 times. Maybe I'm remembering that wrong?
I was somewhat prepared for the possibility because of these boards, but it was still a huge disappointment. I think if Disney is going to promote it over and over again, they talked about Disney's private island all the time, I think they need a backup plan. A dock on the other side for another option, a tendering system, a different port, etc.
We still had a great cruise, but what a disappointment.

I would find a lounge chair in the sun and start ordering Konk Koolers to help ease the pain :sunny:
