We are booked at the Poly for July 2008. When we went to Disney in June 2006 we stayed at the Contemporary and my DD (then age 7) LOVED IT! She called it her home at Disney World.

My husband and I like to try new hotels. So, we wanted to stay at the Poly this time. We just can't get our DD excited about it. She keeps saying she wants to stay at the Contemporary.

I loved the Contemporary as well but wanted to try the Poly.

Any advice on how to get her excited about the hotel change or would you change your ressie to Contemporary?

What about a split reservation? This way your DD will get to experience her favorite and you can try something new!

I'd personally keep the ressie at the new hotel and plan a dinner or other visit to the other one. I'm guessing once you are at wdw, she won't care where she is. if she doesn't get all that excited about the hotel prior to it, she probably will once she is there.

I agree about keeping your current ressie. Maybe rent some movies with a poynesian theme etc... Maybe get her a little grass skirt and lei. Once she gets there, she ought to love it and forget the other hotel.

Like the previous poster, I think a visit or dinner at CR might be a good way to alleviate your DD's craving for CR. It's only a monorail ride away from the Poly.

A split stay, to me, sounds like a pain. I hate packing/unpacking, so I'd never do it more than once per WDW vacation.

However, I think your DD will probably have a new "home" at WDW after your Poly visit. ;)

how is old is your daughter and who is footing the bill??

::yes::

I would not change the reservation. Personally, I think giving a child that much control is a dangerous thing. I would follow the advice of the other posters by showing pictures and buying some polynesian themed items like the grass skirt.

Keep your PR reservations. The problem here is most likely related to your childs age and normal psychological development where their not fully able to invision what a Disney Vacation will be like other than your CR expereince. This is her fondest memory of Disney...to her mind...why change a good thing?

I would not worry about her not being excited now or make an issue of it. Things will work out fine.

I would just keep your reservation. She'll be happy when she gets there. I think she's too young to have a say in these decisions.

I would do as other posters have suggested. We have always held family discussions on resort stays but ultimately the decision was made by us "the Parents". I would find a list of the activites offered at the Poly and talk about them if shes open to it and I might consider a cool gift basket be left in the room for your arrival as a special gift for her from whatever character she loves welcoming her to the Poly.

I'd definitely keep your ressie at the Poly - it is just sooo wonderful!! Truly a "resort" feeling, whereas when we were at the Contemporary (for Chef Mickey's) it felt like "just" a hotel. I'd keep the ressie, make a meal ADR at one of the Contemporary restaurants and take her to "visit" it on the monorail!!

Mommy wanted to stay at the Poly, always been her dream, DS5 wanted to go back to POP, guess who got her way?;)

I am sure once you are there your daughter will love it, after all she's in Disney!

She will love the Poly, keep your resse there.

No way would I alter a reservation based on the preferences of a 7 year old.

Tell her you could always find some other little girl to take ;) . I bet she'd suddenly be very excited :rotfl: . Honestly, last year we stayed at the Swan and are staying there again this year even though DD8 really wants to stay at the Dolphin. Oh well, that's life:rolleyes1 .

When I was 7 I didn't want to go to the beach, Mom made me go, and I loved it

When I was 8 I didn't want to go to Summer Camp, Mom made me, and I loved it.

When I was 10 I didn't want to move to Indiana, Mom made me, and I loved it there.

Kids never want to do anything new. Just a lack of life experiance.... Mom's job is to drag them kicking & screaming into new places so the kids can get some life experiances :laundy:

Clearly, I should have stated it differently and asked advice on how to get a child excited about trying this new experience in Disney.

Thank you to those who responded with positive thoughts!

Your DD may be like my DGD. She is never comfortable with any change ....until it happens. She will automatically want what she knows and what she liked before. Keep your plans and she will love it. We just did as other posters suggested and showed her pictures and talked about the features at the resort that she would like. (She wanted AKL when we booked the Poly. In fact she wants to live there forever).

FWIW, I don't have any issues with helping kids get excited for their resorts. How many threads a day are on the Resorts board asking if the poster will like a certain resort or if they should try a new one? Why should children contain their anxiety about a new resort? Each time we chose a resort we made that decision after considering my DGD's preferences as well as our own. While I would not place the final decision in her hands, I commend her Mother for taking her into consideration when making that decision.
