What would you do?? Airport questions...

hi....i thought SNA was a no brainer, then was reading about cheaper flights at other airports....so i started checking our dates. (coming from Denver)

SNA 13.8 miles to DLand, $311. each, rental car $208

LAX 34.3 miles to DLand, $277. each, rental car $ 230.

Long Beach 19.4 miles to DLand, $359., didn't check rental...b/c its way more per ticket


so, after flight cost verses rental car cost, we would save $78 if we flew into/out of LAX. do you think $78 is worth the longer time/traffic jams...never been to Cali before but ive heard horror stories about the heavy traffic!

...spend a little bit extra on your plane tickets; I've driven to/from LAX more times than I can count, and it's STILL awful! I'd hate to think of what it'd be like for someone who has never encountered the "joy" that navigating LAX & the traffic around it can be!

SNA is a much more pleasant experience, because besides being a much shorter/less stressful drive to DLR, it's also a small airport with a much easier loading/unloading process.

Agree 100%. If the savings were huge then maybe LAX. But for such a small amount, stick with SNA. My two cents.

SNA is a smaller airport & the less traffic = less stressfull vacation.

I live in LA and I would pay the extra 78 dollars and save a big headache! LA traffic is a nightmare and if you don't know where you are going it's even worse!! SNA is such a pleasant airport to go in and out of and LAX is a hot mess! Take it from an airline employee...you would rather go in and out of SNA!! Plus you will be at Disneyland in 20 min!!!! Woot!!

I fly into LAX every summer and it's not *that* bad. LOL. But for a mere $80, I'd probably opt for SNA. Shorter drive to DL, less hassle getting rental car.

We fly home out of SNA and it's nice to not end your trip with that long ride to LAX.

Now, if you'd save $200 or more, then I'd pick LAX.

We have flown into/out of all three airports, and it doesn't make that much of a difference to me.

How many tickets are we talking about? $78 per ticket times more than a couple of tickets is a lot of money!

ETA Maybe I'm reading it wrong, maybe you do mean $78 total. If it's total, I'd definitely go out of SNA.

I'd pay that $78 and avoid the craziness that is LAX. Also, driving from LAX to Disneyland. I hope you have GPS and are used to crazy traffic. NO thank you. lol

Do you really need a rental car? Are you going to explore non-disneyland locations? The easiest vacation is when you have a short car ride *and* don't even need to drive it.

I just set up two trips for the summer (and trying to convince the wife for a 3rd). The two trips where it's just me/munchkins will be spent entirely in Disneyland, and we're (intentionally) not going anywhere else. Speaking strictly for me & my tastes, I dislike driving on my vacations. Heck, I hate bringing socks, my preference is teva's, and when we're in hawaii I'll walk with those in my hand (ie, not wear them).

If the wife agrees to come with for a 3rd trip, we'll need a car, but only b/c she wants to go shopping in Santa Monica (LA) on non-disney days.

I'm the oddball here because I don't mind LAX.

The only time we had difficulty getting back to the airport was entirely my fault, b/c I misjudged the time, and we had a rental car.

To me, it's simple, easy, and there's the chance of seeing a celebrity and TMZ photographers.



On the other side...you'll use much more gas using LAX, so that has to be added to the car rental cost, and you want to be sure you get recommendations about what gas station to use b/c we didn't and ended up at a really sketchy station, bleah.


I do agree with the question of do you need the car...or would a shuttle, bus (Grayline's Disneyland Express...if so, yes do use SNA b/c that's the only part of LAX I don't like b/c you have to stand out in the smoke and exhaust), or even a towncar be better for you?

I think you made the right choice. SNA is worth more than $78 more to me! I never even search LAX. I just stick with SNA. My time is worth a lot.

I agree. I have no problem with LAX. But, I've never rented a car there. We either have a car service pick us up or use the DL Express.

Car rental at SNA is very easy...just hop across the street, down an elevator and there are the cars.

If you rent a car at LAX, you have to shuttle over. It adds a little more hassle time to your vacation.

We fly into SoCal practically on a monthly basis and even though I don't mind LAX and I know my way around LA, When I am in vacation mode I totally prefer SNA I just want to chill out.

But, if the cost is important, then you will survive LAX. Its not as bad as people say. Just be patient and know where you need to go BEFORE you begin to drive.

We had the same decision to make in January and again in May. After flying into LAX two times this year, if the flight difference were only $78, I would absolutely go with SNA over LAX. For only $78 savings, LAX is not worth the additional time and hassle. Our difference was close to $200 per person.

I flew my mom and sister into SNA and I would pay the extra to avoid the traffic. Do you need a rental car? I found the SNA shuttle for them for $8 each one way. Just an idea.

yes, we do need a rental b/c we want to do a beach day and a hollywood day....otherwise we would def. be doing the shuttle.

and to answer pps question, it is $78 total....we will be using sna for sure!!
