DH and I and our 5 children (7 months, 3, 6, 12 and 14) will have 3 weeks + 1 day in Florida in November-December. We´re thinking of spending 5-6 days in the Florida Keys and have rented a villa for the last 2 weeks in Orlando. This leaves us with 2-3 nights to spend somewhere either at the beginning of our holiday or between the Keys and the villa in Orlando.

We´ve never stayed on-site before so now I´m contemplating whether we should maybe spend the first 2-3 nights in to connecting rooms at a value resort at WDW. The downside is that we wouldn´t be going to the parks during that time, since I want to buy 10 day tickets and they have to be used within 14 days, making me want to use them at the end of our vacation.

I´m thinking it might be nice to try an on-site hotel for once, even though we might just spend a day at the pool, go to DTD, have breakfast or dinner at Chef Mickey´s, etc.

What do you guys think? Would you do this, or just stay somewhere completely different?

You could use this opportunity just to do resort stuff. Use the pool and really enjoy relaxing and you can resort hop and take in all the wonderful Holiday decorations! You won't have to worry about missing anything because you will be back to do all the park stuff!

I can´t seem to decide what to do. Now I´m thinking maybe we should do a split stay. 1 week villa, 1 week on-site. Hmmm.....?

If you've never stayed onsite.....I would do that....it is priceless...

I stand corrected.....there is a high price for staying onsite;)

There are so many choices. Since you have a large family, the onsite costs can be high. If you can get a discount, OKW or SSR may be be an option in a two bedroom villa. You would have a nice resort and a boatride to DTD. If this is too pricey, look into The Doubletree @ DTD. You could get a suite for a reasonable amount and be close to DTD.

Or, something completely different, look into Miami, Palm Beach, the space Center or the Tampa area. Florida has so much to offer. It depends on how much traveling you are willing to do with your kids!!!

Sounds like you have a great vacation planned!!!!! Enjoy!!!!

I vote for the split stay. I wouldn't do on-site and skip the parks.

Another thought would be to do a few days at Universal. If you stay on-site at a Universal hotel you get front of the line access with your room key - priceless!
