What would you choose?

A Marriot (Sable Palms, Horizons Etc...) or the BCV and BWV? My Mother has a timeshare and she was going to generously give us her points for next year. We have stayed both on and offsite while at WDW but never in a villa. I'm not sure what the best place is for us. We will have 3 adults and 2 kids ages 4 and 6. Any suggestions would be great. TIA

does you mother own at DVC?

if she does take her up on her offer and get a 2-bedroom BCV or BWV or with your size group a 2-bedroom OKW (they are bigger).

if she doesn't then don't expect a 2-bedroom DVC to show up in II. I would go with one of the Marriotts.

You will need a 2-bedroom not matter what your choose.

four and one under 3 is the most that can stay in a 1-bedroom or studio.

We stayed at Marriott Grande Vista in April and loved it. We just bought at DVC and are going to OKW in September. My only complaints about MGV were that the pools were too cool (they say they are heated but when we went to the Poly afterward for a few nights it was much warmer for 3 year old DD), and I felt like it was kind of a hike to the parks and we always had to drive. My DH loved the distance away from Disney (he is kind of Disneyed-out), but with kids I think an on-site property is SO much better.

Spiceycat- My Mother bought into Intervale vacation club. They list many resorts in the Orlando area. A few of them are WDW villas. She has heard that the WDW villas are difficult to get but I figured that by planing ahead and not being fussy about the time of year that we might get one. So you are saying that the odds of us getting a 2 bedroom are slim. I am not a 100% sure that I want to stay on-site We also have a number of Marriott resorts to chose from and the Vistana resort. This is my first time dealing with a vacation club so I have no clue on what to expect. Any info. you have would be great.

Tara,
I agree with Spiceycat. Just because the wdw villas are listed in the II brochure doesn't mean they're all that easy to get. I've heard of some people getting OKW in off season but even that's not any guarantee.
I have heard only good things about Marriott.

You can get a DVC resort - but 2-bedroom are not plentiful period. Your best chance would be in Sept, Oct, Jan, May.

if you are going with school age children - these dates might not be what you can do.

the Marriott are very nice. But being on site is great especially with small children.

if you can afford it - go join

www.tug2.net

It will cost you $15. You are joining for the member only things. the Reviews and best yet - on the BBS board - sighting/distress. sometimes there are DVC resorts listed here.

then go see if you see the same listing. If you can't then your chances aren't good. Some resorts even in the off season don't have enough demand that II will let them exchange into DVC.

however put your request in with II and see what happens. lots of times II will try to get you to expect something else (they get rewards when you take an exchange) - so be sure you get something good - Marriotts.

see if you can't get the information from your mother to register online. Now if she has already done this - then great go look for yourself - if not

http://www.intervalworld.com/iw/cs?a=5

don't mistake the getaways for the exchanges. You must click on exchange (even if just looking) to see the exchanges.

Thank you for the info. I have a lot of research to do. My Mom is a new member and she hasn't figured it all out herself. She told me that the man selling her the timeshare told her that she could get a villa at the place that has the animals. Meaning the Animal Kingdom. My Mom thought of my kids and signed up. Now I know that there are no Villas at the AK so I am hoping that she signed up with a good company. It is so easy to get excited and believe everything that the salesman says. :confused3

some like a timeshares salesperson - most aren't very good. they will promise anything to get her to sign on the bottom line.

what is the timeshare she brought? If a good one or a great area you might get a DVC member to do a direct trade with you.

If a bad one - then Florida (if it is a Florida timeshare) gives you 10 day to cancel it.
