Ok, let me start with alittle background info. We are family of 4 Me, DH and DD6 and DS3. We used to live in Orlando and had WDW and Universal AP's so frequented the parks. We are not experts but we know our way around. Now we live in VA and I want to take a trip back down to the sunshine state in 2015. This year will not work for us. We would split our stay for Universal (since I want to see DIagon Alley) and WDW.

#1 Spring Break (kids out of school week after Easter). DH says drive down Monday after Easter stay at Universal 3 nights with 2 park days. Head to WDW for 2 nights (just go to MK) and do the new stuff, parades, fireworks and then some of the kids favorite rides. Leave Saturday to go back home.

#2 Mid August (like 3rd week -not week leading up to Labor day) Leave on a Saturday go to Universal for 3-4 nights with 2-3 park days and then head to WDW for another 4 nights (going to MK and probably HS- maybe one more or just relax) Leave Saturday to go home.

I know #2 is longer stay because DH doesn't want to spend Easter down there. But I think based on 2014 prices Easter week will be significantly more expensive than August so we can go a longer stay. And kids are still off school, etc.. Dh wants spring break since it will be cooler (he hates heat) but I think crowds will be really bad that week. Even though August is hot yes, many kids are back to school so crowds will be high but not like spring break crowds. We are easy touring people since we used to go alot. We don't need many headliner attarctions, and at Uni we'll stay onsite so we will have FOTL passes. But DD6 is now over 40 inches so she can try BTMRR and other 40 inch rides. DS3 is only 35 inches now so he won't be tall enough most likely. And I don't expect a 4 year old to ride those rides since DD was 4 last time we went and she was 38 inches.
You would think I would know these things, but living close spoiled us. LOL.

I would never go during a holiday week. I hate huge crowds.

We go the last two weeks of August because the kids are out of school and we get to go for 10-11 nights.

Yes it's hot but doable.

I'd for sure do option 2...honestly option 1 seems really rushed crowded and just not fun. Going in Aug. will be really hot, but I'd much rather heat then really bad crowds.

I would go for August and I hate the heat but hate massive crowds even more!! Think with lower crowds you can get more done and still escape from the extreme afternoon heat and go to the pool or take in the attractions and shows. IMHO it would be so frustrating to pay all that hard earned money and peak rates to fight the crowds and experience minimal amounts of rides..

I would always go with August compared to April vacation time. A few years ago we went before Easter and the holiday break with the last two days the Monday and Tuesday after Easter being our las two days. This two days were a nightmare crowd wise. We would never do it again. In August, it will be hot, but we never had a problem withe the warmer weather. You will have more time for vacation and the crowds should be lower.

Another vote for August, but this one is because the Mine Train will surely be open by then. Easter week, maybe not.

I'm looking at 2015 not this year. And depending on the height requirement my kids may not be able to ride it.

Thanks everyone for the input. I like August as well, since its a longer vacation.

Option #2. I hear your hubby on the heat; I'm from Miami and our summers can be brutal! But with crowds being smaller and the trip being longer you guys have the leisure of cruising the parks slowly. Lots of stops inside shops for the ac and dole whip to cool him down!

Put down another vote for option #2. I've been to Disney during the holiday crowds and it is AWFUL. A few years back, when my family went during a holiday rush, my sister and I had to lock arms and cling to one another to get through the area near "It's a Small World" because there were so many people trying to move. We had to shuffle our feet to even move.

After that, I vowed never to go back during a holiday peak.

August is crazy hot, but if you wear shorts, tanks, and LOTS of sunscreen, you'll be fine. There are plenty of places with A/C if you need to cool off. :)

I know crowds can be bad, when we lived there we avoided all holidays and summer, with the exception of when family came and visited. We hardly ever went outside during summer except to go to work etc.. and maybe the pool but that was usually before noon or after 5. We did WDW in August in 2012 and it wasn't too bad, but because my kids still nap we went back from 12 -4 to the room. And when we go again we'll plan midday breaks back at the room. We'll probably plan for August or push into fall but I'm skeptical of taking my kids out of school even though DD will be in 2nd grade and DS in Kindergarten in 2015.

I agree with August. I would take heat over those huge crowds any day! We went early September last year and prepared ourselves as best we could for the heat. We made it fine!

We went the week following Easter last year. The crowds were bad and even then it was pretty hot. I'd choose very hot over hot and very crowded!
