What Would Be YOUR Price...?

My DH and I are trying our hardest to get a measly week off together so we can go on a vacation this year.

Nothing is working in our favor.

My vacation happens to be a week before my DH's assigned vacation. (Of course...) :sad2: So far, the chances of either of us being able to change our dates to the others isn't looking good. :(

The best chance is for one of DH's co-workers that isn't on his shift to work two days for him, and this would give us a full week off together.

I'm getting so nervous, I am almost willing to PAY someone if they agree to work for him. (They would be "trading" shifts - my DH would work those two days for the other person on two days that HE has off - so nobody loses money in the end.)

Of course, I have a big enough heart to do this for free , but nobody DH works with seems to want to do DH a favor, so I am trying to up the ante.

What would YOUR price be to work 7 days without a day off, to do a favor for a co-worker?

I would think that in most jobs it would create a problem of overtime for the person picking up the extra shifts. If these are salaried employees, that don't get paid for over 40 hours in a work week, then maybe not. Are you guys trying to get a summer week off together? Summer vacations in Michigan are like gold and most people fight tooth and nail to get what they want and are very inflexible. His coworker might be more apt to work to those 7 days straight if it were February, unless he snowmobiles. You guys might have more options if you try to reschedule for fall or late spring, especially if your coworkers have school-aged children. Good luck!

It's not overtime, it's trade time. Nobody makes more or less money. My DH would simply work two days for the other person, and the other person in turn would then have two days off in a different week.

We used to do this all the time when I worked for a PD in NY, the cops did it too, the key is to "sweeten" the pot...ie-does someone he knows have an anniversary coming up, or is scheduled to work the next major Holiday, or something like that...I did a switch one year with 2 co-workers that had me working a double on the 4 th of July but couldn't care less since I had the time I wanted/needed. Good Luck !

This is actually a REALLY good idea! Fourth of July and/or Labor Day could work... would have to look at DH's schedule, but that sounds GREAT!!! I thought money would be a sweet spot, but a long holiday weekend could be better! :worship: :thumbsup2

If I liked my co-workers (which I do) I would just do it for them, in a heartbeat. But since that doesn't seem to be happening I'm not sure paying them would work either. But maybe some other kind of incentive would work, offering an evening of babysitting, or if they need some car repairs done (and one of you is a mechanic of sorts) or you can cook and they need a dinner catered - I think you get the idea. I just feel bad for you both that you would have to do this. I feel very fortunate that where I work we all help each other out and everyone goes above and beyond quite often. I hope you are able to figure something out so that you can get the week off together.

Glad I could help...here's another thought after looking at the pic you chose to represent your DH if he's a LEO have him casually put his hand on his holster when making the suggestions :rotfl2:
