I really want to understand & being well informed in case we buy into dvc .
What would be the latest you could posponed or cancelled a reservation already made for exemple you have a november booking but for any reason ( can get the week you wanted for vacation ) when could you either posponed for later let's say 2-3 months later or cancelled wiyhout losing any of your points ?

Last Feb we canceled May BWV then booked June OKW. Is that what you are asking??

You have up to 31 days before the trip to have the points put back into your account with no penalty. You do have to be cautious of banking deadlines. After 31 days your points turn into reservation points and have rules attched to them on how they are used.

Ooooops! Watch the terminology.

Points from ressies canceled 30-1 days prior to arrival go into "Holding Account." They can be used only for ressies made within 60 days of checkout. If a ressie is canceled on the day of arrival, all points for that ressie are forfeited.

Points from ANY canceled non-DVC ressie (cruise, Poly, etc) become "Reservation Points." What that means is that the points can't be used for a DVC reservation. They have to be used outside of DVC.

If you have a Dec Use year and you have a trip planned in Nov with points from that year, the points expire on Nov 30 and can't be used later. And you would have to cancel it at least by the end of July to be able to bank the points.

Points are only good for one year, from UY to UY (that the month you get new points each year). If you want to use them in the next year, you can bank them, but you have to bank them at least 8 months before they expire. You can also borrow points from the next year, but if you cancel, those points can't be put back and will expire at the end of the current use year.

Plus, getting a last minute reservation (like 60 days out) is very difficult for some locations or some periods of time. This isn't a good chance of getting a last minute reservation anytime from Oct 1 to Jan 15. Or Easter/Spring Break for that matter.
