What would be my best UY???

OK, new to this part of the boards... nice investment in the past few years has put us in the DVC market. Been reading how the best UY is the month you like to go the most.... heck... we like to go in diff parts of the year... so, help me decide when the best use year would be....

I am a CPA so Feb - Apr is out of the question for vacationing... May is busy, so I think the following months will be our favorite time to travel..

June
October
November
December
Beg of January (marathon weekend)

That all being said... I know all of these favorite months will be out of the window when grandkids come along in 10-15 years.... =)

I welcome all advice and comments as I am just getting stated into my DVC research...

I think I would go with June, given the months you've listed. If you travel in June, you'll have new points, and if you travel in January, you'll still have some time to reschedule a vacation or bank points if original vacaiton times don't work out for you.

I'm in a similar situation, plus live a couple hours away from WDW. The best advice I got was to pick the month after the three least likely months you plan on your regular visits. In your situation June sounds like the best month.

Have you studied the weather, attendance, and event schedules at WDW for the year. That may have a baring on when you would want to vacation there.

We have two different contracts with two different use years, Dec and Feb and have not had any issues for the last 18 years managing these 490 points. We have taken vacations different times of the year so use year never played into our choice 18 years ago.

Assuming June won't be your primary travel time, I'd go with Oct. You'll have more protections and more options than with June and you can always use any points that get orphaned for your June trips.

In my brief shopping for a contract, June was a UY that didn't seem to come on the market as often as other UY. We needed June, and it seemed like every other contract was April or February. Almost settled for April, and then a June that was EXACTLY what we were looking for came around. Now we are owners.

you want to travel as early in your UY as possible. also, you ideally never want to travel in the last 3 months or so of your UY (jun-jul-aug for a sept UY) - largely due to traveling after your banking window has closed, which limits your options for any current year pts used to book the stay.

use year month is only an issue if you need to cancel. it has nothing to do with when you can call to book a stay.

some "real world" examples:

if you have a june UY and a may 2012 trip and you need to cancel 60 days out, your banking window closed on jan 31, 2012 so you'd have to use all of the pts in the reservation before they expire on may 31, 2012.

if you have a june UY and a june 2012 trip and you need to cancel 60 days out, your banking window won't close until jan 31, 2013 so you'd have until then to decide whether to use current year (2012) pts for a reservation in that UY or else bank them to the next year. (you'd still need to use banked and borrowed pts by may 31, 2013.)

if you have a june UY and a may 2012 trip and you need to cancel 5 days out, the pts would turn into "holding" pts so you'd have to use all of the pts in the reservation subject to a 60-day-out limitation - but that won't matter since they expire on may 31...which is less than 60 days out.

if you have a june UY and a june 2012 trip and you need to cancel 5 days out, the pts would turn into "holding" pts so you'd have to use all of the pts in the reservation subject to a 60-day-out limitation - but at least you'd have 12 months before they expire on may 31, 2013 to decide what to do with them.
