What will you celebrate is a joke!

There is a difference is the commercial shows things you can do. Them asking if I'm celebrating and then noting it on a reservation is a promise to acknowledge it.

If you want to talk about advertisement. Why don't I get young when I go to Orlando.

a difference yes, a big difference no. They are just keeping with the theme of the promotion on the phone. I don't see how that is a promise or an expectation to acknowledge it. I'm not saying they shouldn't acknowledge it, just that I myself wouldn't expect it or be disappointed if they didn't. (wow, I was able to fit four negatives in one sentence, impressive)

Well if that is the case than I will get a year older on our next trip right?!?!? Works for me!!!!!

Because you seem to be getting caught up in the expectation of Disney providing a magical time instead of just letting go and having a magical time yourself. Feeling like a kid again while at Disney is a good thing. Enjoying time with your family and friends at Disney is a good thing. Provide your own celebration and take any extra pixie dust from Disney as a bonus. :)

We were planning this trip regardless of the promotion they were running and would have been going regardless. When they make the advertisement and ask consistently "Are you celebrating anything?" it creates an expectation that was not met.

In the lobby of our hotel after check-in a CM from Disney research stopped us and asked if we wanted to participate in a survey. I think we have something tattooed on our foreheads because we are always stopped by these CM's for questions. We were selected to participate in a survey to keep a diary during our stay. At the end of every day we had to document where we visisted and how much money we spent outside our dinning plan. At the end was a survey. So we did have an apportunity to express our concerns.

The second paragraph is where I think that you actually have the greater right to a beef with Disney. A reservationist asking what you are celebrating is like a retail clerk asking you what brought you into the store on that day. In both cases this is market research. However, in the second case you are being asked to give your time and labor for free to a corporation who is charging you for everything and then wants you to give them specific figures on how much you spent with that corporation for anything personal. That is what seems crass to me.

I will be eating at Crystal Palace for breakfast on my birthday. I did online ADRs and for special occasion I wrote "Nicole's birthday breakfast" All I want is for the table to be decorated like I've seen in other pictures, I expect nothing else. Not even anything from Narcoosee's later that night. :rotfl:

Well, that could be a problem. Don't expect it. If it happens, what a magical thing. If it doesn't, then you'll be disappointed. It can ruin your day if your expectations are not met. Go into your vacation that you are going to spend your vacation at the Happiest Place On Earth. It won't be perfect, because Disney is not perfect. But, it will be great. Maybe they won't decorate your table, but because it's your birthday someone will give you a free soda or a dole whip. But, if you are bummed because your table doesn't get decorated you won't appreciate the nice things you do enjoy on your birthday. If nothing else you receive the perk of the fast passes, free admission, or gift card on your birthday.

wow , you took that wrong. I just thought it funny taking the commercial literally.

The asking what we celebrate is older than the promotion. In all my posts i have not said anybody deserves extra. Just a verbal conformation of the celebration that they noted.

Apologies. :flower3: I get fired up sometimes!! No offense. :goodvibes

We were down last week for 7 nights and I have to say I was very disappointed with this celebration promotion. During the entire planning process from package booking to ADR booking I was continually asked if we were celebrating anything during our stay. Every time I was asked I said yes we are celebrating our daughter graduating college. The cast members always said they were making a note in the reservations. During our entire 7 night stay the only time we were acknowledged for our celebration was a card left in our room offering 20% discount off a private picture session. That was a joke. No acknowledgment at check-in, any dinning reservation, and our daughter was wearing a celebration button and never acknowledged by a CM. I heard CM's saying happy birthday to guests and people getting special desserts.

Some of you are completely missing my point and I never said I was expecting a "car, or Barry White, or rose pedals on the bed." My point is that Disney made an expectation they did not meet by asking "What are you celebrating" and not following thru after saying "I am making a note in your reservation". I nor anyone should remind a CM we are celebrating something if they have already reached out and asked once before. The only recognition we did receive was a pre-printed card in our room offering 20% off a private photo session to remember our celebration.

If you have a promotion that offers to make your celebration special and then say you are noting the celebration on the reservation, you have created an expectation.

What exactly is your expectation then? They noted it and you received a discount on a photo shoot. They did something right? What else are you hoping to receive for the celebration?

I think they said it before. either the host or waiter saying Congratulations with a smile on the meals that it was noted on.

Along the the lines of setting expectations, this thread is a good reminder for me to set the appropriate expectations for my son's upcoming belated birthday celebration at WDW. i.e., we are going to Disney so that WE can celebrate your birthday... anything Disney does beyond that is literally icing on the cake. ;-)
