What will the rain shut down?

I am due to leave in 5 days and a little nervous about the tropical storm. If it rains will Disney still have indoor shows (as in the bug's life show at AK) open, or does everything shut down? Any suggestions on how to wait out the rain? (I have a feeling my first trip to WDW will be a wet one.)

I have not been to Disney in the rain in years but from what I understand unless tehre is lighting and or high winds almost nothing closes for rain.

Grab a poncho and enjoy, the lines thin out to almost nothing and it is still warm out. :thumbsup2

If you mean Tropical Storm One, currently near Tampa, that ought to be well out over the Atlantic by Friday. That's not to say there won't be overcast skies and rain related to the low pressure system. ...but nothing out of the ordinary. Even without tropical storms you almost always get a tropical shower in the late afternoon this time of year. (what my FIL calls a 'Florida Carwash').

Indoor shows unaffected. Outdoor shows very rarely effected, though Cars, Moteurs, Action might have to pause if the roadway is wet & slippery (just guessing - never been there in wet).

Rain showers fairly short (15 minutes max) so find cover & wait them out or get a rain cape & press on.

We were at Indiana Jones and they only showed the first scene and cancelled the rest because a storm was approaching that actually never came. The showed both Fastasmic shows later that evening with no problems whatsoever.

:)

I was there for one day in February after a business trip and it rained all day. It didn't stop me from doing anything. Test Track was closed at the time for refurbishment but I don't think it runs during the rain, especially if there is lightning.

The rain should not stop too many shows as long as there is a covering. We sat for the B&B, a complete down pour, thunder, and the show went on. Leaving the show was another story,,,,the water was over our sneakers, and you know what its like walking around with wet socks and shoes

But we still enjoyed the wet day, its Disney..

Yes, Lights Motors Action does get cancelled, along with Fantasmic. Anything outdoors with live actors will be cancelled for their safety. Other shows will stay open. I'm not sure about rides, like Test Track, where a portion of it is outside. I think they'll only shut that down if there's lightning or a bad downpour. But I'm not 100% sure about that.

A rainy day isn't a ruined day at WDW. That crowds thin out a lot, so grab a poncho or umbrella and enjoy your day!!

WDW Rain Queen checking in. ;)

As many of you know, I bring constant downpours when I go to WDW - so I'm an expert. ;)

Anything that's exposed to the elements closes down if it's a serious rain. Sprinkles, most things stay running. Lightning and thunder - well, for safety reasons, lots of things shut down. The stage shows, like Indy, B&TB - that sort of thing.

Waterparks, obviously close. Pools close.

Your best bet is to head into a totally enclosed building, like Hall of Presidents (yeah, even if it bores you to tears at least you stay dry) or the Epcot movies.

Or duck into a sit down restaurant and have a slow, relaxing meal while it settles down. :)

There was one rainy day on my trip in May. We were at the Magic Kingdom and the only things I saw that weren't running were Dumbo and the Magic Carpets.

Five days out is a long time out to be worried about that tropical mess in the Gulf. I know that in light of the recent awful hurricanes in the gulf many ppl get nervous about them. I do not think they feel this one will amount to much at all. I leave on Tuesday and I am only a little concerned about this system. My concern is that I will be driving through the rain. Although seeing the projected path and the timeline I think it is more likely I will be following the rain.

I have been to MGM during major rainshowers prior to Wilma. Fantasmic got cancelled because of the lightning and many ppl left the park even though it was an EME. We pulled out the ponchos and put the rain gear over the strollers and walked through the puddles. I went on RnR several times in a row as it was practically empty while the dds and dh went to see The little Mermaid show. We did the great movie ride with no wait and could have gone to the other attractions like ToT but I chose not to. We liked seeing the park so empty and it was nice to browse the stores with no crowds. So take the ponchos and forget about wet shoes they will dry out.

Weather-related Shutdowns . . .

1) Light or Misting Rain
. . . rides OK
. . . parades OK
. . . fireworks OK
2) Medium Rain
. . . some outdoor roller coasters (eg, Thunder Mountain) shutdown
. . . parades cancelled
. . . fireworks usually OK
3) Heavy Rain or ANY Thunder/Lightning
. . . all outdoor rides shutdown
. . . all parades cancelled
. . . all fireworks cancelled
4) Heavy Wind, With or Without Rain
. . . most outdoor rides OK
. . . most parades cancelled
. . . most fireworks cancelled

At the Canada pavilion at Epcot, Off Kilter does not play when it rains, so I would imagine other music performers around the World Showcase probably don't perform in the rain either.

A few years ago they stopped Beauty and the Beast because of a downpour.

Last week we had a pretty severe thunderstorm while at AK. We hopped on the Safari as a CM said that they almost never stop the safari trips. We were on the trek when the storm hit - the animals were all out enjoying the rain. We were able to see all the baby elephants frolicking in the water and spraying eachother. The giraffes took cover (as well they should!) but all the other animals were putting on a great rain-show for us! It was amazing! There were only 8 people total on the truck with us. Very nice indeed.
