My son will be 6 months old when we go to Disney. He's only 2 months old now,so I can't imagine what he will be doing at 6 months old. Are 6 mo olds sitting, crwaling, eating any table food, how much entertaining will he need, how will he handle waiting in lines.....what else should I know about so I can plan?:confused3

Thanks

Sitting, yes. Crawling, maybe but probably not. Eating table food? No.

You'll probably just be starting solids, so you'll need to bring or buy them there. We were still on cereal flakes + breastmilk at 6 months with all 3 of ours. (If you're nursing, you'll need to bring your pump or be efficient at expressing in order to mix the cereal concoction.)

6 months is also the age where babies start to get very distractable while eating. Again, if you're nursing, this is an ideal age to seek out the baby care centers because that baby will be quick to turn away at noises and interesting things to look at and a quiet, controlled atmosphere helps get you through that time period.

Your baby will likely be old enough and strong enough to start using an umbrella stroller, but he still may be fairly slouchy.

He probably won't need much entertaining in line. There's so much to look at, and that will keep him entertained. If you're going during the summer heat, be aware of that. Use sunscreen formulated for babies (because they stick everything in their mouths!) and a hat. Try to angle the way you stand so he is out of the sun. (This is relevant in some lines, too, like Dumbo.) Watch for heat rash and signs that he's too warm. There are plenty of cool places to duck into if you need a break (restaurants, shops, shows).

I agree with many of the things the PP said-- he'll probably be sitting, not likely crawling, and you might be trying some veggie or fuit purees at this point-- depending on how you feel about that (I did start solids at 4m, Ped OK'ed.) 6 months is still a very very easy age-- it's actually nice because they're sleeping for longer stretches at night and they're not mobile yet. I agree with the hat, sunscreen, and heat suggestions. Oh, and bring the balmex/butt paste/desitin. :)

Good luck!! Enjoy!

It also depends on how you feed them as to what they are eating. My 6 month old was eating table food. We did child led feeding, which basically involves starting out with table food and no purees. That being said, she was still nursing 95% of the time, so it wasn't a big deal not to feed her if there wasn't something there for her to eat.

Development is also hard since each baby develops at their own rate. Your child will likely be sitting by 6 months, they maybe starting to army crawl or move in other ways to get across a room, but they may not as well. As for entertaining in lines as the PP have started, you probably won't need to do much they tend to be entertained by everything happening around them.

A six month old waiting in line is so much easier then a 2 1/2 year old. Normally there is just so much to see that they don't really mind it. I really liked having a front carrier when I took DS at 5 1/2 months and DD at 7 months to Disney since they could often stay in it for the ride and it was easy to keep them in when we went through*lines, since some of the lines are long and carrying a baby in arms, even a light weight one can get heavy after awhile.

Personally, what I would do if you're going to go the cereal/pureed foods route, I'd try to hold off on starting solids 'til after my trip if I knew I had one planned.

If you're going to go straight to table foods, then I wouldn't worry.

Most babies should just be starting solids around 6 mos and their diet should still be mostly breastmilk/formula. Solids are just for practice. I'd make it easy on myself, lol.

I took my 6 month old on our first trip to WDW. (He's now 11) He was great and hung out in the backpack the whole time. I remember he would notice some things and "oooh" over them. It was fun!

Truly, we were just doing one meal of solid foods per day at that point, and they should be eating new food for 3-4 days to test for allergies. (We didn't try any new foods at Disney, as I figured vacation wasn't the place I wanted to deal with an infant with a food allergy!) Long story short, if you've moved on to purees at this point, you'd really still only need 7 jars of baby food for the whole week.

You may, however, be into teething. Be sure to bring plenty of infant tylenol, as it's expensive in the parks. (Can't remember when ibuprofen becomes okay...) And hand sanitizer. Don't forget that your little one hasn't been exposed to a lot of germs and can pick things up down there. (Although it always seems to be the adults in our family who come home with some dread childhood illness... usually pink eye.)
