What will happen to points?

Trying to plan our first trip and I am having a hard time understanding the borrowing/banking system.

We have a Feb UY. We are planning a trip in October. We are going to "try" to book 2 studio rooms. We will need to borrow some points from 2010 to do this. If we a cancel a room in September what happens to our points?

Borrowed points would expire on January 31, 2010. OR...You could try to get MS to reallocate so the borrowed points are used for the room you keep and the current year's points are used for the cancelled room. That way you can bank the points.

If you use Feb 09 points and borrow Feb 10 points and cancel in Sep for an Oct trip:

1. If that cancellation occurs 30 days or less before your date of arrival all points go into a holding account and must be used by the end of your 2009 use year (by Jan 31, 2010) and you can make a reservation only by calling 60 days or less out.

2. If cancellation occurs 31 days or more out, all points return to your account in the state they are in. The borrowed points stayed borrowed and you must use them by Jan 31, 2010. The 2009 points can be banked if done before Sep 30, 2009.

If you cancel within 30 days of arrival, the points will go into the "Holding Account" which means they can only be used to make a reservation within 60 days of arrival and those points cannot be banked and will expire at the end of the Use Year.

As noted, if you cancel 31 or more days before arrival, MS can help you reallocate the points to use the borrowed points and allow you to still bank the points from the 2009 Use Year. The borrowed points can't be banked and can't be moved back into your 2010 Use Year.

Just make sure to make any changes prior to 30 days before arrival.

If you cancel before the end of Sep, you could bank the 09 points and use the borrowed points. As long as you didn't use more 2010 points than 2009 points.
