What were your childhood fears?

Being kidnapped and it’s still a fear today for me personally and as a parent.
Me getting kidnapped is scary, but the thought of my kids getting kidnapped actually makes my chest feel tight just thinking about it - I just can’t imagine living through that nightmare.

Same as you @slo , but in my case, I was actually kidnapped (he claims 'taken') by my father during a nasty custody battle when I was 5. I remember being so scared, even though he was my father, and I remember crying over and over for my mother. Thankfully the police found me and brought me home after 2 days.
Other than that,,snakes and spiders, same as I am today, many many years later

I watched Unsolved Mysteries with my dad. Basically anything I watched from that and then I needed to be escorted by armored guard to my bedroom.

When I was little I had to have a night light. Now the room must be completely dark for me to sleep. I go so far as to use a pants hanger from the closet when I am at a hotel to make sure the drapes are closed and don't let in even a little bit of light.

Things I hate about hotels. Why do the bedside clocks have such bright lighting and why can't you dim it completely? Why do they have very bright night lights in the bathroom? Why does the blow dryer have to have to be lit up?

The elevator cable breaking. We lived on the 5th floor and I would take the stairs if I was alone. This was when I was 3 - 7 rears old.

I guess the typical monsters at night and then once they started showing those “beware of strangers in black cars and sunglasses asking you to help them find their puppy” films in school, that got added too!

But I actually don’t recall either of these things taking up much of my time or lasting too long.

That my parents would split up. There was quite a bit of arguing and on one occasion they sat us down to say dad was leaving, but it didn't happen, they made it work until I was in my late twenties and then it happened.

Mine was quite strange.
If my mom didn't tell my sweet dreams before bed I was certain I would have nightmares.
And while I can't recall details of it now I do recall that I had a recurring nightmare as a kid
It somehow involved camping and a menacing threat

Unfinished basements, walk in closets with doors that had slats, rodents, people being able to see in the house at night if the curtains were left open. I’m sure there is more.

Giant monkeys like King Kong with a miniature version that lived under my bed and a crocodile like Tick Tock in my dreams that chased me and my father and a very old neighbor and people I didn't know and...
