What were you in the Nativity Play & do you have any funny stories?

I was a king, I also got to give the Gold I think.

I can't ever remember having a part in the Nativity play, though I know I used to play the recorder and some other instruments

The only person I have ever played in a school concert was Queen Boadicea, where I had to pretend to drink some poison and collapse on the floor, it gave me plenty of practise for my Bacardi Breezer days as I grew older :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

2nd Innkeeper, with the immortal lines:

"There's no room at the inn".

Just remembered I was a sort of garbage troll one year, dressed in a bin liner for another christmas production.

I'm pretty sure that was not a lead role :rotfl: :rotfl2:

i cant remember what i was but ds has been a shepherd for the last three years :)

I was an angel loads of times and when we did the nut cracker i was a doll. In the Juniors I was mainly a narrator.

I only ever remember being the star! The pointed variety that is! :teeth: I only just missed out on being Mary at another time. :confused3

I was in a Nativity play, and I played a Skier.. :lmao: They did a round the world bit with angels, and I got to have lines since someone was ill! My lines where "Here are your skis".. :lmao:

I did a pause for dramtic effect though!! :rotfl2:

I was the Angel Gabriel. But I was going to be Mary except that I couldn't get the emphasis right in the line "Is there no room at the inn" (I think I put it on room instead of no or something but heck, I was only 4) and the teacher took the part of me and gave it to someone else instead. And yes, it still rankles!

Can't remember what I was but I do know my friend Rachel was always Mary!!!!! Something a little girl never gets over.

I'm so pleased though this year as my DD aged 10 was Mary. She was so funny as she was devastated that Joseph had to put his arm around her but she then said at least she would be wearing 4 layers of clothes! :rotfl2:

I was nearly always an angel because I had very pale blonde hair, I was the star once too, I had to carry it in on a giant pole. I also remember being a Rag Doll, an Owl (my mum and sister have never forgiven me for the night they had to spend sewing brown tissue feathers onto an old t-shirt) and a line dancer - where exactly those 3 fit into the birth of Jesus I forget!

The funniest thing I remember from nativities of my childhood was a sheep related incident. I had a toy sheep, around 3ft high that was on a rocking horse type base but also had metal wheels that could be bolted onto it so it could be pushed around. One year the school needed sheep for the play so offered it up and they accepted. It was kept to the side of the stage and was meant to be pushed on so it would roll across the stage and come to rest near the manger. However the person whose job it was to send it on it's way obviously didn't know their own strength. The first we knew of this was when a 3ft high metal wheeled sheep came flying across the stage at mach 9, flew off the edge and ended up on it's side, narrowly avoiding members of the audience! Health and safety would have had a field day and I bet if it happened this year the school would have to be closed down after half the audience sued for the trauma of narrowly avoiding being hit by a flying sheep!

I was an angel with a halo made out of tinsel wrapped round a coat hanger :rotfl: I wanted to be Mary sooo badly, but my best friend Rachel got picked instead :sad2: She wasn't my best friend for a good couple of days afterwards let me tell you! (This was 26 years ago and I am still mentally scarred) :lmao:

It's so long ago I can only actually remember one Nativity and in that I was Mary - mainly because I was the only one who could sing the required song.

I remember in a Christmas play in 1971 I was Father Christmas an one of my lines was - "never mind my elves, we will have to make some new ones!"

My DD6 was an angel in her school play a few weeks ago and she sang a beautiful solo of "In the Bleak Mid-Winter".

I was an elf one year, with hideous green tights and lots of green tissue paper. Then another year I was a shepherd, which I remember thinking was completely out of order, me being a girl and everything. I desperately wanted to be an angel, but it wasn't to be.

I remember the year I was a shepherd though, we had a fire in the school a few days before, but the show went on. We had to walk round puddles and buckets of water, and the Christmas tree in the hall, which was as high as the ceiling, was all burned down one side so they had to turn it around so the burned bit was at the back. The place reeked a bit too. All the Mums cried buckets that year.;)
