DID ANY OTHER PARENTS CHANGE THEIR CHILD'S NAME?????

:)

My DS had his last name changed when my DH adopted him. The judge made a big deal letting us know we could change his WHOLE name if we wanted. At the time it felt like the judge didn't like his name (Bailey, yes, he's a boy).

In hindsite I am sure he meant that in case he was named after his bio dad or something.

My grandmother had a friend who named her daughter Huicher (sp?) or something like that. It was an old Dutch family name and this family wanted to celebrate their heritage (they had emigrated from the Nertherlands before the revolutionary war). The only problem was that the name was pronounced "Hooker".

Surely, given how into geneology this family was they could come up with another Dutch name???? Or at least use Hooker as a middle name?

And yes, she was young enough that Hooker meant Hooker at the time she was named.

A girl I went to school with is named Danelle. She was supposed to be Danielle, but her parents mispelled it on the birth certificate and they never bothered to change it.

My hairdressers daughter has a son that she has changed his middle name twice. I think the reasonings both times were that she got bored with the naem.

One of our old neighbours was named Nazar. Almost like nasal.

There were four stephanie's in my homeroom in 7th grade. I've just always met so many Stephanie's everywhere that I get sick of my name.

On the other hand, one of my friends at my first school was named Mieka. It was so different, but everyone loved it and it totally fit her. As long as the names aren't totally out there, I think a different name is good most of the time.
Hi, I am Stephanie as well! :wave2:

My friend's parents wanted to name their child Casey, but because they thought it was more of a boy's name, the named her Karen C_____ so her initials would be KC. Cute, no?

when dh and I started having kids we decided to give them one hispanic name (for dh he's mexican) and one american name.

We ended up with dd 5 Samantha Raquel and ds 3 Lorenzo Matthew. I kind of feel bad for my ds as everyone on dh's side of the family call him lencho :confused3 I hate it and correct them everytime.

I had a student once whose name was Kacey C. So, not only was it his first name but also his initials.

I posted on another thread about some of the unusual names of students in my class. Well, today I was at summer school when a student came up to me and asked where I got my shirt because I had her brother's name on it. I was wearing a Tinkerbell shirt that said Tink across the front. At first I just thought she read the shirt wrong but she said that his name really is Tink. I think she was a little offended when I asked if it was short for something or a nickname. It wasn't by the way. I've never heard of anyone naming their child Tink (I'm sure there are a few out there), especially a boy.

HEY MY SISTER DID THAT EXACT SAME THING.....OMG!!! :goodvibes

My sis' name is Christine. She named her daughter Kasey with a K and her middle name is after her, Christine...so her name is Kasey Christine and her initials are KC just like her FIRST name!!!! Too Funny.

I think my sister spent HOURS trying to dream something up unique like that and the whole family was IMPRESSED. AND that was 18 years ago!!! Niece is headed to college.

:wave2:

I used to take school photos and I could not believe some of the names that parents gave their kids. We had 1 family that I would see year after year. Their last name was Fogg and their 2 boys were London and Lowe.

I never did like my name, and it has given me problems. It is Dee. No one would believe that was my legal name. Every year on the first day of school I would end up in the office because the teachers thought I was withholding my "real" name. They thought it had to be short for something and that I just would not tell them.

Okay, a few name stories to share here.

First off I have an aunt Mary who married a guy named Brian. Their first child they named Brianna, in honor of her father Brian. Their second child they named Brian, in honor again of his father.
So their family is compossed of Mary, Brian, Brianna, and Brian. At least it makes it easy to write out their Christmas card.

I have a friend Mike who has stated that he wanted his kids to go through the same thing that he did as a kid; always having another kid in class with the same name. So his kids are named Mikey (it's also a family name), Ryan, and Tommy. Oh, and his wife is Jenny. A very orignal family.

And last, but certainly not least is a guy that I went to middle school and highschool with. His name is

Nimrod

I kid you not. According to him it's a traditional Jewish name. By the time we got to highschool he was simply going by Nim.

Yea, Nimrod. :confused3

I know they have been on the news, so a lot of peoplel have heard about them, but my best friend (a flight attendant) actually HAD orangejello, and lemonjello (twins) on her flight.

I had a friend in high school whose last name was Rhodes....yep, his first name was Rocky....he was actually Valedictorian of my sister's class!!

:confused3

When I was pregnant my DH and I were thinking about naming the baby Elvis if it was a boy. :

My g/f named her son, Elvis. Here's a shot of his eyeballs:

He's a good lookin' kid. And if he's anything like his Mom, he's be able to pull it off. :thumbsup2

I really like my name--Jill. It's easy to say, easy to write and pretty much never mispronounced. It was also widely available on items as a kid. Can't ask for much more than that. :thumbsup2

I named my oldest Stephanie, back when there weren't many others. Now there are a million Stephanies. My son Eric is common but not that common, also easy to spell and pronounce. My daughter Julianne is ALWAYS called Julia for some reason. It is like people can't see the "anne" part. :confused3

My friend's daughter is Juliane and she gets the same thing. I'm always surprised at how many people can't get her name right.

I taught kindergarten several years ago, and we teachers had to go to the office and pull files before the first day of school to figure out which students were boys and which were girls because of the boys' names given to the girls. One of the little girls in my class was named Jeffrey. Poor kid.

My sister taught a child named Female (pronounced Fee-ma-lee). When she was born, she was given a hospital bracelet with "Female Smith" on it, and the mother thought the hospital had named the baby for her :confused3

My name is not common and it's also the Greek spelling of the name so I can safely say that I have never found it on anything. However, I love my name. It fits me and always had.
My mom told me that I was almost named Sophia and I just am so glad that I wasn't because I am just not a sophia.

With that said, I knew 3 people growing up with just THE most unfortunate names EVER!!! Two of them were sisters (twins) whose names were Gonorreah and Syphillis (said Ga-noh-rea and Si-phillis) and they didn't have the worst name. The worst one was a girl in my class in elementary school whose name I can't even type here b/c it will get blocked --> S-head (pronounced Sheetheed). I always felt so bad for her at the beginning of the year with a new teacher. :(

I hated my name as a kid for 2 reasons:

1. Nobody had my name
2. It was always spelled wrong (it would always get spelled Lindsey)

I was almost Mary Catherine. I think I will stick with Lindsay, and I have my mother's middle name. I like my name now :)

DID ANY OTHER PARENTS CHANGE THEIR CHILD'S NAME?????

I would like to switch around my DS1's first and second names. We never intended on calling him by his first name we just thought it sounded better that way. I really regret doing that to him because he is K--- on the first day of school and we've never once refered to him that way. I have no idea how to go about doing it though.

I swore after having grown up with a mother who has a very popular name for her age group (FTR--Her name is Kathyryn. One time my stepdad was at church and called her by name while looking for her in a crowd after services. I kid you not--18 women turned around. 18!!!) that I would never give my child a name that was 'trendy' or 'popular'. It took DH and I awhile to decide on DS's name--James. His middle name--Anthony--is after DFIL.

The only thing we didn't think about was the initial spelling out something. :faint: His initials spell out JAG. D'oh!

I don't care what he calls himself when he gets older as long as it's not Jim or Jimmy or Jimmie or Jimbo. I HATE those names. Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll stick with the nicknames he's got right now--Bubba and Bugs. :)

TOV
This was why it was so hard for me to pick out a boys name..I wnated a name where I liked the full name, and any nickname, because I just knew that if I hated a nn, that would end up what he'd be called. LOL

So we have the incredibly popular..Matthew. I like Matthew, Matt and Matty.
He tells em to only call him Matthew or Matty, not Matt. :confused3
but I call him Matt all the time-about equal with all three names.

My husband is James, friends and family call him Jimmy, coworkers call him Jim.
No one calls him James, except I do goofing around at time. I do think James sounds best.
