What weird thing gets you nostalgic?

When I say weird, I mean something that nobody would expect might get you nostalgic for Disney of all places. Something that even a fellow crazed Disney go-er would not get the same feel from at all.

An object, a scent, a place, anything.

For me, my weird thing is the scent of Dove's Clean deodorant.

I did say weird ;)

The reason helps it make more sense though! I didn't use to use that deodorant, but ran out of my old one just before our second trip to Disney, and a last minute purchase was made. The very first time I wore that scent was at Disney World, so now whenever I put it on, it brings me back. Weird, I know.

The other thing isn't quite as weird. We recently bought three Yankee Candles, with the Cotton Candy scent, because the suggary smell of it is exactly the same as the scent of melted marshmallows that hits you when you step inside of Main Street Confectionary.

What about you guys? Anything random gets oddly nostalgic for you?

I got a soap at the soap shop at Grand Floridian that smells just like Soarin'. I love that soap. I cut it into 3 pieces so I wouldn't use it up too quickly!

Anything that tastes like pineapple, anything that smells like Soarin', any pressed penny machine I see, and anything that smells like that "melted marshmallow" scent you get from the main street confectionery :)

Seeing old videos of "If you had Wings". Reminds me of our first trip to WDW in 1974 in our Country Squire Station Wagon.

Blushing orange shampoo and conditioner. I used it at pop a few years ago during a one night stay before free dining. I order it all the time from Disney store. It makes me feel like I am at pop again. I love it.

For me its the smell of sun screen (suntan lotion) which takes me right back into that vacation feeling.

I also have the same thing with deodorant as you. One particular brand takes me right back to Disney as I ran out and had to buy a different brand while there.

There is a line of products (I can't recall the name) at Bath and Body Works that is available in the winter that smells just like the pie in Mickey's Philharmagic!

Seeing Chip (not Dale). My favorite Disney memory was very much like the commercial with the little girl who spends all day looking for Mickey, then finds him at the end of the day.

Well, Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers was my favorite show and I spent the whole day wanting to find Chip. I was so disappointed at the end of the day because I hadn't met him. I was watching the fireworks and turned around and Chip was standing right behind me. Now, logically, I know that one of my parents must have spotted him and asked him to go surprise me, but at the time (and for years after) I thought it was pure Disney magic. I actually asked my dad last year if that's what they did, but he couldn't remember. So I'll go on thinking of it as being my magical Disney moment and every time I see Chip at Epcot, I smile.

Last time we were at WDW, my husband snuck off in DD to the Art of Disney store and bought me one of the huge Thomas Kinkade paintings of the castle and Main Street. I wake up every morning and get nostalgic all over again because it's so life like and its the first thing I see every day. I could have killed him because of the cost, but I digress.

Wooden log Benches at Animal Kingdom. We've taken 2 real trips Week trips (planning 3rd now for Nov) and then also took our son at 9 months old just to Animal Kingdom. My favorite pic is of just him on the bench there with Mickey ears. When we took him back in 2nd grade and daughter was 18 months old, I got teary and took their pics there together and apart and hers was also another favorite. Now, I love those wooden benches!

Mine is Chocolate covered frozen bananas in part because my DH liked to giggle about it (you could probably figure that one out, he hasn't quite grown up), but it was just one of those things i always had to have while there.

Whenever I hear someone over a loud speaker it makes me want to queue up into a line somewhere and wait while being told to stay behind the yellow/red line :) Also, anytime I hear someone count down from 5. All I hear is Steven Tyler's voice :)

The smell of smoky burning wood...like from the Burning of Rome scene on Spaceship Earth. My brother and I found a tea from Twinings (you can get it in Epcot!) called Lapsang Souchong that smells JUST like it...it's wonderful! Anytime I smell people smoking BBQ a certain way, I close my eyes and feel like I'm back on Spaceship Earth.

Also, diesel gas from the buses. As a kid, it reminded me of ski trips with my school, and the buses that took us to the mountains. So, when I smell diesel gas when it's cold, I think of ski trips. But if it's warm out, I think of Disney!

Chocolate covered bananas! Same for me! One of my first memories in DL right before boarding Its a Small World

When I was little we lived about eight hours from Disneyland and we would drive down a dozen times a year and inevitably somewhere along the drive we would smell a dead skunk. I LOVE THE SMELL OF SKUNK!!! It always reminds me of Disneyland or World!!

There are many, but here are three off the top of my head:

The smell of popcorn. Always reminds me of tradition of getting popcorn before spectromagic.

I rarely use public transportation, so whenever I do- even airport shuttle to car rental lot...reminds me of Disney Transportation.

Hotel employees (if they have a uniform) always make me think of ToT immediately.

Oh! I love this thread!

My mom once got a hand soap that smelled like fruits. And it's the exact same scent from Mickey's Phillharmagic scene when they "offer" us food in the Be our guest part.

I also get transported to EPCOT when I listen to "Can you feel the love tonight" by Elton John. Don't know why!

Let's see... I rarely use public transportation as well! So I always think I'm going to Disney when I ride a bus! xD
