Not sure what week will be the least crowded in april 2016. I know easter is in march this year, but the north east celebrating passover the last week of april plus the cheerleading competition that week is giving me doubts, maybe the 3rd week is better? need help

I am hoping to go the third week in April. My research said either the first week or third week in April. The third week works better for my family since its a better time for my kids to miss a week of school.

I like to use the information from the Unoffical Guide that you can find on their website TouringPlans or I use the very helpful information from easywdw. We're heading back to WDW the week of April 11. Most schools in CT are off that week.

School vacation week starts on April 16 in our area. We have been 3 times during this week and yes, it is fairly crowded. Our most recent trip the last couple days many large groups of teens were roaming the parks/resorts. We were at CBR and never fail, some prankster/cheerleaders would knock on our door at 2am. For some reason I think every last one of them ended up at Animal Kingdom our last day. We did rope drop so when the teens all started showing up at noon-ish we were nearly done anyway. It was still a great vacation but I would do the first week of April if I had the option.

im thinking april 20 to april 30, but the passover over in public schools in the northeast are scaring me a bit, might just plan thoroughly with fast pass and deal with some crowds, most spring breaks will be over though

I just booked the week of 16-24 hoping it won't be overly crowded seeing as spring break and Easter will be at least 3 weeks in the past...I guess time will tell.

When is the cheerleader competition? Also looking at April 2016 and that sounds like something I'd want to avoid :)

Dave suggests that the second and fourth week should be least crowded, by a small margin.

I have been each week in April over the last 4 years.

My vote is for as LATE in the month as you can go.

Regardless of when you go, you are going to have school groups, cheerleaders and high school senior trips.

Epcot on Fridays will swarm with middle schoolers on fields trips, so avoid that park on those days.

2015 I was there for Massachusetts Spring Break, the week of 4/20 (I'm not from MA). I was concerned, but it really wasn't bad. For 2016 I'm looking at 4/9-4/16, which seems to be one of the lesser Spring Break weeks; fingers crossed.

My impression from my 2015 trip is that MK is a madhouse, period. The difference is whether it is mad, madder, or maddest. I thought the other parks were fine - not empty, don't think I'm saying that, but they were perfectly manageable. (And yes, I went to MK on Tuesday evening and all day Wednesday, which were recommended days.)

Dave Shute, **************.com, also did a great article earlier about how the different spring breaks and holidays will affect crowds. Based on this I am going April 8-12 for a short trip. I was wavering and thinking of delaying it until later in the month but this thread and re-reading Dave's article have confirmed I chose the best date.

Also, most of those cheer competitions are held at ESPN WWOS and are listed on that website and calendar, found here:

Where do you get this info, if I may ask? We're looking into Spring 2017 and that would be good to know...
The WWoS calendar is one. The other is parents involved in cheer and dance know that the Cheerleading and Dance Worlds is always the last weekend of April and is under contract to with Disney to have it at the WWoS. The last contract for the Cheerleading and Dance Worlds was for 10 years. Now with the new Cheerleading venue being built at WWoS, I suppose it will be renewed. The Summit is a fairly new cheer competition that is the first weekend of May each year. The weekend is specified in the contract.

The Cheerleading and Dance Worlds is considered "The Olympics of Cheerleading" so cheer families know exactly when this competition is held each year. The Summit is a new event for the younger teams not eligible for Worlds and will always be the weekend AFTER Worlds.

The Cheerleading and Dance Worlds competition future dates according to the current contract:

2016 - April 23-25

2017 - April 29-May 1

2018 - April 28-30

2019 - April 27-29

Thank you! Our LO is still a baby so we won't get into this stuff for at least a few years. Thank so much for sharing!

The schedules are relevant in terms of resort occupancy. During the competitions the value resorts will be full and sometimes Caribbean Beach as well. It can also affect your touring plans in the parks if you happen to encounter a herd of cheerleaders in line in front of you. I am looking at possibly moving my April 6-11 trip to the end of the month in hopes of seeing the new Rivers of Light show at AK and the upgraded Star Wars fireworks at DHS. To do so though I would have to move to one of the Riverside resorts and pay about twice as much on hotel. I love the Riverside resorts, but was liking the thought of a cheap trip.

I would NOT go the 4th week of April if you're looking to avoid crowds. NYC and Long Island public schools are off, as are my nieces and nephews in MA, NH, and NJ.

ETA: if you can, I'd scrap April and go first week of May.
