Sorry this review is a bit late but here's what we ate during our trip

The players - Me (35) DH (43) My Mom (55) My Dad (57) DS (8) DS (5)

12/4 dinner - Hoop de Doo (5 p.m. show)
Food was good and the show was great! All you care to eat Fried Chicken, Ribs, Seasoned Corn, Salad, Baked Beans and Strawberry Shortcake plus Soda, Beer or Sangria.
We had not made a special request for our very picky eater (ds 5) but when our CM - Nancy saw that he was not eating, she asked him what he would like and brought him mac & cheese for dinner and plain vanilla ice cream for dessert.

12/5 Lunch at Epcot - DH and sons ate at Electric Umbrella - typical Disney burgers & fries - ok but really large for kids (my kids did not want the kid meals - generally chicken tenders or hot dogs)
My mom & I ate at Yakitori House - chicken yakitori, white rice and edamame (boiled green soybeans - they're really good - you should try them!) This was a better meal for me - lighter and cleaner than burgers and the restaurant itself is somewhat quiet and relaxed.

Dinner - we had a picnic while watching Fantasmic! DH & I had Turkey Legs and the boys had hot dogs. A great meal for watching the show.
My parents had dinner at Palio and enjoyed it thoroughly - but sorry - I have no details.

12/6 Breakfast at Kona Cafe (Poly)- We ordered Tonga Toast, Banana Pecan Pancakes, "the Big Kahuna", Eggs Benedict, a kids french toast and kids Mickey pancake. Everyone loved this breakfast. I know people rave about the Tonga Toast - it's very good - but very sweet. This breakfast was a perfect start to our day - we may have to come back here for breakfast every trip!

Dinner at Boma (AKL)- the food was good here but the wait to get a table was silly. Our PS was for 5 p.m., the restaurant was nearly empty and we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. The food was very good - some of it was too sweet for my taste (cinnamon and sugar mashed sweet potatoes) and some of the spicing was highly unusual. Some favorites of ours were Chicken Pepperpot Stew, Noodle and Pork Salad, Watermelon Rind Salad, Corn Salad, Roasted Vegetables, African Spiced Flank Steak and Barbeque Spiced Salmon. The desserts here are simply amazing! Our CM Paul even special ordered a burger (for our picky DS) after he didn't want anything from the kid's pod (Fried chicken strips, french friesm mac & cheese, PB&J sandwiches and spagetti w/ marinara sauce) I'm glad that we tried this restaurant but I'm not sure we will go back for dinner on our next trip - I think our kids need to grow up (in tastes) a bit first to really warrant this all you care to eat meal.

12/7 Lunch at Flame Tree Barbeque at Animal Kingdom - DH & I got BBQ chicken salads - very good and light - not overly large either (a plus) The boys ate at Restaurantasaurus (McDs chicken nuggets and fries...'nuff said)

Dinner for Boys at the Mara (AKL) - Older son got chicken strips meal which he deemed excellent. Younger son ordered mac & cheese - he said it was disgusting. It was very bland and not salted and the macaroni was very mushy - it just wasn't the way he liked it - needless to say - another dinner of cereal for him.

DH & I has dinner at Kona Cafe (Poly) - we were inspired by our excellent breakfast there. We started with the seafood potstickers which were amazing! I had the macademia encrusted mahi-mahi with stir fried veggies. It was good but the fish was slightly overcooked by my taste - as if it had sat under the warming light for a bit too long. The stir fried veggies were delicious but I couldn't tast the lime cilantro sauce at all. Also this meal needed a small amount of rice to go with it. My DH ordered the Asian Chicken pasta - it was excellent. It had more veggies and meat than pasta and the flavors were well melded. We skipped dessert (got a Mickey Bar at MK) but shared a cappucino that was large enough for 2. We would come back for dinner again - the food is good and it's nice to come here on a night your heading to MK.

12/8 Early Lunch at Pizza Planet at MGM - pizza was very good but the ordering/serving was insane. The restaurant kept adding CMs to take your order/money but there was only a couple CMs cooking/getting drinks so it was very backed up and unorganized. Luckily we found a table early on outside where I waited with the boys while my DH waited inside for our lunch.

Dinner - My parents and the boys had dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe. The festivities were great (pony races, a straw fight and my little one had to get up on a chair to yell for ketchup) but the food was mediocre. My parents ordered the skillet and regreted it because all they ended up eating were the ribs. The boys had burgers (again!)

My DH and I had our special dinner out at California Grille and it was worth every penny. Our PS was for 8 p.m. and we got there at 7:45 and were seated immediately. (we did not have a window seat but one table in from the window overlooking Bay Lake and the Castle) Our server Rachel was great - she was solicitous but not obtrusive. We both started sashimi. Then we both had salads (mine was an Arugula with blue cheese and pears; DHs was baby field greens) I ordered the filet and he had the Tuna; Dessert was a warm banana bread pudding with molten chocolate center with coffee and DH had sorbet, cookies and cappucino. During appetizers we watched the Electric Water Parade and the fireworks exploded over the castle and lake just as dinner was served (it was a MVMCP night). With a half bottle of wine and tip dinner came to $200 - but it was a magical evening.

12/9
DH, my mom & I had a late breakfast (10 a.m.) at Boma. The breakfast buffet was a treat. We had omelets made to order, and tried pap (african polenta) sweetened like hot cereal. The pressed pot of Kenyan coffee helped to wake us up and the mixed fresh squeezed juice was amazing. We were well satisfied for our day of shopping and viewing resort decorations. (so satisfied we skipped lunch!)

We had dinner at Chevy's Tex Mex at the Crossroads Plaza that night. I was really in the mood to have fajitas and didn't want to deal with the Pepper Market set up with the kids (and it wasn't a day for us in the parks). My shrimp fajitas were excellent, Dh had excellent chicken quesadillas, My mom loved her burritos and Dad loved his soft tacos. The boys had burgers (again!) Dinner for the 6 of us was $60 with tip including sodas for the boys and beers for the guys - a good deal.

12/10 Sorry I can't remember what we had for lunch at MK - although I know I made sure to get a churro in frontierland!

We went to Epcot to see the Candlelight processional and ate dinner at Cafe Tangierine. The food was quite good (we had Lamb and Chicken Gyros and mediteranean pizza) and the decor in the Morrocco pavilian is so lovely. Of course we had Mickey bars and Mickey ice cream sandwiches during the show! During Illuminations we snacked on Beavertails!

It was a great trip!
:smooth:

Great reviews! We are planning on eating at the Kona Cafe for breakfast next time. Sounds like it was wonderful. We had about the same reaction to Boma. I liked it but DH and kids not thrilled, plus we had along wait to with an early PS. Looking foward to reading the rest of your reviews.

Thanks for the review! We were there about the same time. Thanks for bringing back memories! :)

Great reviews! Thanks so much!

The Chicken Pepperpot soup from Boma was my favorite soup ever! I got the recipe from the chef, but have never made it - this reminded me to dig out the recipe. Maybe I'll make it over the weekend!

I love edamame, too! I make it all the time at home, and keep it in the fridge - great for a quick snack.

Thanks for the review. We've eaten at Boma for breakfast. During our next visit, we're going to try it for dinner. Thanks again. :)

I added more to my original post so I'm bumping this back up. (added 12/8-12/10)

Thanks for the reviews! Sorry your Mahi Mahi didn't turn out right at Kona .You can ruin a great fish by overcooking it even a little bit. :( Had it this fall and it was a little overdone as well. As for the potstickers. Yum. Glad you had a great time overall.:)

Thanks for the reviews. Isn't the California Grill a great spot?? With that wonderful view, I always recommend it as a perfect spot for "first timers" dinner.

Just wondering if you made PS for kona cafe..we will be staying at the poly and just wanted to know if we needed them..thanks..amy

Uncleromulus - California Grill is our favorite restaurant in the World. We've bee our last 3 trips and enjoy it more every time. The setting can't be beat and the food is fabulous!

Corvair - we did have PS for both breakfast and dinner - but we made the breakfast one the night before and the dinner one that morning. There were 6 of us for breakfast so I think that it was essential to have a PS. Even with the PS we waited about 20 minutes (it was also a very rainy day so a lot of people probably decided to go out for breakfast). It was only the 2 of us for dinner and we were seated immediately. The Kona was far less crowded at dinner time and at that time of year a PS probably wasn't vital - it just put us ahead of the walk ins.

If I can answer anyone elses questions - please fire away!

Thanks for the reviews!
