I was wondering, what was your major (and minor) in college? And does your career now have anything to do with what you majored in?

Right now I'm a sophomore in college and I've known pretty much since middle school that my major would be mathematics. I've taken 5 math classes already and I'm still loving it and would definitely not consider changing it. I also might consider minoring in computer science.

I know I'm not going into teaching, but I don't really know what's out there in the world of math. I do have this Undergraduate Math Conference to go to tomorrow where I will participate in a competition, and there will also be workshops and speakers who will be speaking about careers in math. So hopefully I can get some ideas then!

So how about everyone else?!

Major - biology
Minor - chemistry & pre-vet/med

Yep, they were required for my career.

I have a degree in Computer Information Systems (Computer Programming.)

I use it only to the extent that I use a computer at my job as Church secretary.

Communication... and being that I am in Telecommunications, you could say I use some of my degree. However my study was not really all that focused on that type of communication and my jobs in college in IT got more more of where I am not than anything else. The degree in the same field was a small bonus.

Math and computer science go hand and hand. Some your class in math can lap over in computer science easily. Found out that won't have take that many class to minor in computer science.

My Major in college is Information Systems End - User Support minor computer network support.

I have not found a job computers yet. I found that it's hard to get a chance when do have any work experirence in the computer field.

But I do have work that I carry on job interviews show my work that I have done freelance. I show them examples of web site and other web site I design.

I work HomeGoods as a Processor which is a idiots job because that all I found. I can't stead that job.

But in the summer I worked as Concession stand manager that use all those business class that I took Information Systems. Those management class is coming in handy. I loved that job.

I loved working with computers have been doing since age 5. I knew when I was kid that what i won't do when I grow up.

I have not give up my dream working in computers.

In reality most of the IT and computer jobs is going overseas. It very hard to found a computer or IT job at the moment.

I have a degree in Computer Programming, but I'm not a programmer. About 50% of my job is showing my coworkers stuff about computers though.

I haven't finished yet, but so far my degree is going to be in Computer Science, and I don't have ANY plans on changing it. And seeing as how I have a new job as an AOL Tech Support Manager, I would say it is quite useful!

I've had plenty of majors so far....
I started as Communications, then Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management, then Liberal Arts-Dance Major, then just Liberal Arts....

I've finally settled into Paralegal Studies which I LOVE and cannot wait to get a job in. I'll most likely be graduating in May '05 :)

I majored in Marketing, and I worked in that area until getting downsized about a month ago. I hope to find another job soon, whether it be in Marketing or another business related area.

Undergrad: Majored in English Literature and minored in psychology.

Graduate: Television-Radio-Film

Currently working as a production coordinator for a cable network. I think at the end the internships i had was more important than my degrees. Just remember to network when you get out of school...that's the most important of all. You NEVER know who might actually have that job lead!

I majored in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics.

I am currently teaching mathematics at a HS in North Carolina.

The computer field is saturated. If only I would have graduated 4 years ealier.

Alas, I enjoy the job I currently have. Especially that summer off. :earsboy: :earsboy:

Major: French and Anthropology.

I currently work in a labor office, but I want to work in human resources management.

Business Administration

I'm a stay at home mom now but when I worked my major really didn't have anything to do with my job.

My degree is in business and economics. Included in this dept were accounting courses which I took all of. I started as a CPA so I definetely needed my classes to get certified and get my 1st job. I have strayed from this a bit and now do financial systems - a related field.

My B.S. is in Marketing with a minor concentration in English Communications. I never did anything with the Marketing degree, but I do teach an English Com. course at a local college.

I went back to school and got my teaching certs. after I graduated.

Early Childhood Education (K-4)

I taught for 10 years and left to go into Real Estate. I am now a SAHM but in a few years I will go back into Real Estate.

My major was Fine Arts. And up until 1 1/2 years ago I used it in all my jobs with the company I now work for. I started as an Art Director, then stepped down to a graphic artist after my kids were born, and my last job there was a creative consultant. I liked that job best, but felt compelled to make a career change. I'm now working in Human Resources, and while its been interesting, its really not my thing. I've missed working in a creative capacity, and am returning to my old job, even though it will mean a pretty big pay cut. Sadly, doing what I love doesn't pay as much, but I'll be happier. :)

Started out in marine biology. Decided I didn't want to measure fish for the rest of my life. Switched to speech pathology and audiology. Switched to psychology. I was lucky to get a job related to my major when I got out of college. Went on to get my Masters in education and have been teaching kids for 15 years.

For my undergraduate degree I majored in Chemistry then I went on to get a very technical MBA. This was a great combination for me because I ended up working in a computer-based chemistry company. I managed technical support, training, and then I also did a lot of marketing and pricing. I didn't use my chemistry much and I loved being in the business side of the company. I also concentrated a lot on customer services. I stopped working when my my son was born though.

I think it is important to do what you love, but I think there are many things that you can love to do. You have to really investigate what the job market will be like when you graduate- not just how many openings are expected but what the pay will be like. Be as well-rounded as you can in case the job market shifts.
