Okay, this was inspired by the "Life on Mars" thread.

What was your parents' first car (if you can remember) and what was your first car?

My father's was:

A black Ford Popular (the one with the side lifting bonnet):goofy:

Mine was:

A white Morris Mini 1000.:smickey:

Now that's taking me back in time! :teleport:

Mine was a Mini 1275GT :)

I had it stolen after 3 weeks and written off :(

No idea about my mum but mine was a red 13 year old fiesta, after 6 months I upgraded to a 3 year old white fiesta. Much more reliable!

:sunny:

Jodie

Not sure about my parent's but i had a Nissan Cherry :lmao: Even though everyone called it,it was the only car in the family that started and actually ran in a particuliarly heavy snow storm.

I dont know about my parents but my first car was a Fiat 126, it was smaller than a mini and the engine was in the boot, it was sooooo noisy it sounded like a lawnmower! My mum said she could hear me coming from about 2 miles away! It also had a few miner probelms such as the passenger door would swing open when you went round corners, it certainly livened things up for anyone else travelling in my car! Funnily enough I didnt get asked to give people lifts very often! :car:

:) Mine was a blue Reanult Clio

I had a renault 5 which i bought for £40 ( Bargain), it ran for 2 and a half years, without costing me a penny then finally died, i was gutted!

This one will make you laugh, well I did :rotfl2:
Dad only had bike licence so his first car was Reliant Robin (of Trotters fame).
Traded in his bike. Once round the block and off we went.
Hit George Sq, Glasgow at 5pm :moped: :scared1:

On family holidays we all (mum and my brothers) had to get out because it could not make it up the ferry ramp :lmao:

Dad's was a Ford Popular and mine was a Ford Capri ~ boy could that baby go.

My dad's was an Austin A30, I can even remember the reg. GFH 472 , mine an MG Metro , D931 YHG.

Wish I could remember what happened yesterday though

NFR353G was mine, a mk1 2 door Escort 1300GT, Black with red and yellow stripes over the bonnet and a number 7 on the doors..... As a very nieve 17 year old, I bought this car on a rainy Saturday night with no inspection whatsoever, all I cared about was it looked cool. The plan was to put it in my mums garden the next morning until I sorted things like Insurance, passing test etc etc. Couldnt put it straight in as I needed my mates to help me lift out concrete fence panels.
Next morning I went out to find a fixed penalty notice on it for 4 bald tires. Thinking back, I should have signed the ownership document for a day later, but being stupid, off I walked down to the police station to explain I had only had the car a matter of hours and hadnt even driven it.....I told them it was now off the road, and foolishly expected them to "understand" and it would be OK. Unfortunately the officer concerned was more interested in finding out that the car wasnt insured, and quickly added that to the court summons. I didnt even know you had to have insurance until you drove a car !
So, without even driving the car, I ended up with points on my licence for 4 bald tires and no insurance. This set me back some time for getting the test passed and properly on the road, but once I did, I then proceded to drive through some poor blokes front garden wall down Trunnah Gardens (Johhny will know that road and will be thinking how the hell did someone manage to crash down there!).
So my first car was not that great an experience for me.

Mine was vauxhall Viva Mk 2 (NOT the square one!) which the wings rusted off, my parents car that I can remember, was a Ford Anglia but that was not my dad's first car.....

Well I only passed my test when I was 38, so my very first car was a Ford Fiesta, I then had a Vauxhall Astra Sports, then Renault Megane Cabrolet, but have now gone back to a Vauxhall Astra Sports which I love. :goodvibes

I remember that my Dad had a skoda (is that right :confused3 ) . It got stolen out side a hospital!!! :rotfl2:
After that we had a car that hated motorways and used to break down loads when we used to go on one. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My parents didn't have a car as my Dad rode a motorbike.

My first car was a VW Polo, which was quite nippy but not as lovely as my current car which is a Volvo C70 Turbo Convertible .

Mine was a little Vauxhall Nova 1.4 (but not the sporty type - mine had 5 doors) but it was a great little nippy car.

It was called Champ, which was short for Champagne Supernova. :rotfl2:

My 2nd car was a Vauxhall Corsa in a lovely blue/green colour. She was called Phillippa.

i don't know what my parents was, i was a baby then...certainly a GM, but i don't know which...

my first car was a chevrolet malibu that my parents bought for me when i went off to graduate school....
after graduating, i sold it when i moved to New York (where i didn't need a car)....
several years later, when DH and I relocated halfway around the world, i bought my second car, an oldsmobile cutlass.....

3 years later, when DD was 9 months old, we relocated again (again halfway around the world), so I sold the cutlass.....at that point i bought my first japanese car of many to follow....i now only buy japanese....the first was a toyota corolla.....followed by a mitsubishi, then a honda civic, and now a honda jazz.....funny.....my cars have gone steadily smaller through the years......i much prefer driving small cars..especially given that where we live now has places with tiny little narrow streets where it's much more comfortable to drive with a small car....

however DH has to drive a much larger car....he's way too tall to fit into most cars...unless he were to sit in the backseat and drive from there .....

i came back to add one thing....as a detroiter, i deeply love my cars.....it's really a detroit thing...even though i'm a traitor with all those japanese cars....
i know there are many people out there who have mad love affairs with their cars, but they're usually more of an exception than the rule....... but every detroiter i've ever known has cars in their blood....we live and breathe them....no matter the make or model....DH, who's not a detroiter, cannot comprehend my love for cars (he's from DC where it's not cars that turn people on, but something else entirely), .....
