What was your favorite childhood neighborhood game?

We used what we called a "pinky ball." It was a pink, rubber ball about the size of a baseball.

You mean a "Spaldeen"??? I know it's Spalding but I'm a Jersey girl. We'd play 7Up with them.

Chinese Jump Rope was the biggie for me. If I only had one other friend with me, we'd put one end around the fire hydrant down the block!

All the kids on my block were really into flying those rubber band propeller airplanes that you wind up. I remember lots of fun times out in the street with those. We'd have crabapple wars from one side of the street to the other, too. We were always in trouble with the old lady up the block cause the apples would go in her front yard.

Fun memories. You just don't see kids doing this stuff anymore, sad to say.

Maybe I'm in a different age group (older I guess) than most here.

We spent hours in the evening playng frisbee in the street.

Also, badminton (many a shuttlecock lost on the roofs), roller skating (hated those people who still had brick sidewalks) and catch.

We also left the house as soon as we got up and only came home for lunch and back out until supper, and then back out until the street lights came on.

Rainy days were spent inside with board games. Who else remembers a rousing game of "Mystery Date", or Monopoly?

I sure wish we lived in a neighborhood so our kids could do the same.

We played Ghost in the Graveyard (we lived in a house for a couple of years that actually backed up to a cemetary.... had a blast playing ghost in the graveyard in the graveyard! very creepy)
Jump rope
jacks
hopscotch
four square was great! wish I could remember all the rules. I tried to teach my kids but couldn't remember enough.

We played kickball in the street too. "Car" was always something we yelled to get out of the way. Anyone remember "ghost runners" when you didn't have enough people? If you were on 2nd, and it was your turn to kick, you yelled out "ghost runner on 2nd" then the ghost runner went as many bases as you did.

We are very blessed to live in a rural area with about 6 kids near my kids ages. They really do go outside and play for hours! Since we don't have pavement, they can't do a lot of the games we did, but they really are into imaginary games. And they ride bikes for hours on end!

Capture and kick ball! We had a neighborhood full of kids and we lived on a dead end street. We could play right in the middle of the street because everyone that lived there had kids so they drove slow and expected us to be out there! we used to have a block party every 4th of July also and we would literally block off the street and it was a huge party and at night we would set up a movie screen in the middle of the street and watch "Free to be you and me" while lying on the lawns!! Oh those were the days!!

Chinese jumprope and flash light tag...something about hide and seek in the dark.............. much more fun!:teeth:

There were so many kids in my neighborhood. My favorites were:

Great Escape
Kick the Can
Whiffleball
Basketball
Bike riding
Skateboarding
Freeze Tag
Hide and Go Seek
Hopscotch

The best part was we all got along.:sunny:

Ours was kick the can also. Great memories.

We played lots of the ones listed. My favorite was kick the can. I taught MY kids and the neighbors to play it and they LOVE it. They also play dodgeball a LOT. Though they call it "Bombardament" !
