What was your favorite childhood neighborhood game?

a game we called 7UP....played with a playground ball and a wall...you had to bounce the ball against the wall and do certain tricks ...clapping, catching, turning around....don't remember all the rules...we played it every day for hours..

Freeze tag, kickball (in the street) hide and seek( in the dark)

Red Light Green Light. And one called Captains Quarters.

1. Politically incorrect, but involved running for your life with a football in my hand, then passing to another person before I get tackled.

2. Four Square. Hands down the most popular. Had names for all of the moves. Around the world, spinners etc...

3. Teatherball.

We LOVED playing that at school in elementary (among other games). :bounce: We used what we called a "pinky ball." It was a pink, rubber ball about the size of a baseball. I remember getting dizzy with all the spinning around on one of the later "moves/tricks." :teeth:

Smear the _____ ??? We played that, too.

And four-square.

And I played tetherball a lot at camp with a girl once. We both made our forearms quite black and blue from how hard and often we played that week.

We used to do all sorts of stuff! We'd play Freeze Tag, Kickball, Hide n Seek, rollerskate, ride bikes... etc... they are all childhood favs!

In our neighborhood we played:

7 Up

Kickball

and hide and seek (from dusk until the street lights came on - the universal signal that we all had to go inside.)

Jumping rope. Rollerskating (remember skate keys?). Throwing the ball over the house to the other team if they caught it they ran around to our side and had to tag one of us. Hula Hooping. Statue Tag, Flashlight It. We used to make a tent out of old blankets over my mom's clothesline and sleep out all night.

oh we played lots of games

wiffle ball
freeze tag
3 step
dodge ball
baseball(had a home plate in our back yard;) )
hide-n-seek

Oh to be young again

The boys in high school used to play "killer" ball named after the high school gym teacher. It was dodgeball but the object was to throw the ball as hard as you could. They would get pretty banged up, but they loved it! Could you see the schools letting that gane go on now?

We also used to roller skate...I hated those skate keys, I was always losing mine.

We used to play Nancy Drew...oh how much fun we had.

More favorites were kickball, hopscotch and catching fireflies.

It was my good old days...i often like to play Hide & Seek with my neighbouring friends........

The Power Link Dimension

Flashlight Tag
Ghosts in the Graveyard
Kick the Can
Four Square
TV Tag
Hide and Seek
Tether Ball
Catching fireflies in a jar (but always letting them go before they died)

Oh, I was the queen of jumprope, too. I could jump for hours. :p

I feel so bad that my kids and their generation don'tplay these games. Summertime was so much fun as a child, we would be out until all hours of the night playing these games.

I also remember playing capture the flag! We'd also be able to walk to the store and would spend about 50 cents for a gallon of that horrible sugary "fruit punch" and we'd all share it! :)

we would do marathon kick-ball games, but our favorite was a game called Ditch-um. It was like hide and go seek with a twist. All the kids would play, young and old alike, the only difference was that the older kids would hide from the younger kids and make-out for several hours while the little kids tried to find them!! It took me several years to finally catch on to what was really going on. I am not sure my poor brother ever did catch on!!

My kids love to play kick ball now and will play for several hours in the back yard.

Colored eggs. One person would be the 'wolf' and the rest would be the 'eggs'. You had to choose what color you were going to be and keep it to yourself. Then the wolf would cry "I want colored eggs!" and the 'eggs' would reply "what color?". The wolf would name a color and all the 'eggs' of that color would run for it. If they could make it back to the 'henhouse' (where the 'eggs' were) before the wolf tagged them, they were ok. If the wolf tagged them, they were the new wolf.

Baseball, basketball and fort! Oh yeah, and dress up parade! Our neighbors had two boys and two girls, so we often played ball games. We liked to play dressup too and often organized our own little shows and parades. LOL! We decorated bikes, pedal cars, doll buggys and wagons and paraded down the sidewalk in our get ups!:jester:

oooh, thanks for the rules TOV, we used to play that but we used fox instead of wolf. I wanted to teach my kids, but couldn't remember the rules.

We used to play Mother May I, red light-green light, torture my neighbor's little brother :teeth:

I lived on a dead end street with tons of kids-we played outisde constantly.
Loved Manhunt(at night), running bases, hide and seek..
We had bases painted on the street and played many many games of wiffle ball.
We also used to have 2 kids stand across the street from each otther at the curb by the front walks with a supply of playground balls-and all the other kids would ride back and forth on their bikes while the 2 kids on the curb tried to hit them with the balls-if oyu got hit, you switched places. LOL
Good times, good times!
