What was your BEST Halloween costume?

One year when I was a kid my mom fashioned me a costume out of paper grocery bags to make me a tree. I won a prize, for most original (I think that was the category), at our local fire company's Halloween dance.

I remember 6th grade, dressing in my brother's "Mandrake the Magician" packaged costume from the year before. I was so proud when the teacher couldn't figure out who I was. I was the last person to be guessed. I was always a victim of "I could tell by your eyes", but dressing in a boy's costume really threw this teacher off.

My best time in a costume was when I wore my Town Crier costume at Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Lots of guests at the park thought I was a castmember.

The best costume that I've ever had anything to do with was the year my daughter wanted us to rig up a shower curtain so that she could appear to be walking around inside a portable shower. I made a harness (shower curtain rod) out of PVC pipe and included a big showerhead. DD wore a tool belt around her waist that held shampoo, a back brush, and a luffa sponge. She wore a showercap too. The only thing missing was actual water coming out of the showerhead. It won a couple of best costume prizes at local events. And she was happier than she could be that her idea turned out so well.

My favorite was when I dressed up as a can of coca-cola.

The year I was Annie was awesome because everyone else had those stinky vinyl costumes with the plastic masks. My mom made me her dress and got me an orange curly wig.

As a pre-teen I was a rabbit jumping out of a magician's hat. That was a neat one!

I haven't dressed up in years but this year I was a pirate wench and it is a really cool costume. Lots of fun!

Best one I had to do with was the year DS was a mummy. I worked for a doctor at the time and had access to lots of gauze. We used different sizes of guaze and wrapped him in it with dangling pieces. His eyes and mouth were the only things sticking out. put a little eye shadow under and over the eyes to make them dark and he looked like a real mummy who had seen better days. Since the pieces were dangling, they got dirty as the night wore on and that just made it better. I think he was about 3 or 4 at the time. It was GREAT. Best one.

It was a while after the movie Jaws came out, and I was dressed as a shark. It was a big costume that I made out of grey corduroy and it totally covered my face, except you could see me if you looked inside the mouth. Anyway, the best part was that under the costume I carried a tape recorder with the Jaws music on it, and I played that whenever I walked into a room.

DH and I were zombie bride and groom one year. Our anniversary is Halloween weekend so it made sense. I had a ripped wedding gown on with spiders and dirt attached, and a dead rose bouquet. DH wore a suit that we tore and dirtied up. On his back we took a Just Married sign crossed out Married and wrote in Buried. White face make up with black around the eyes. I still laugh at the pictures.

We dress up for work every year. A couple of years ago, I bought some white felt, cut out a hole for my head and arms, glued a big yellow circle to the front, wore red tights and devil horns, and was -- a deviled egg ;) !

luvmarypoppins, please scan and share the pic with us!

My fave kids' costume was as Raggedy Andy. My twin sister wore red and was Raggedy Ann while I got to be the boy and wore blue. I thought I looked so cute. lol

As an adult I have too many faves over the years - geisha, genie, Captain Hook, sock hopper, and witch. I just love dressing up. :teeth:

My dh and I LOVE doing costumes. We alternate who gets to choose. One year we were sonny and cher except I was sonny and he was cher (my choice); another year, he was the joker with full makeup and green hair and I was his girlfriend Harley Quinn (his choice); another year he was Darth Vader (with full makeup under his mask for the scene from Return of the Jedi) and I was Yoda - in full makeup, not mask (his choice); last year, he was Shrek and I was Princess Fiona in full makeup no masks (my choice).

My best was my tigger outfit I wore to MNSSHP a few years ago.

I got a white long-sleeved knit outfit, and painted it orange and black to match with Tigger, wore my tigger safari hat, had a khaki safari-type vest and khaki jeans shorts, orange-and-black socks, and painted my face to look like Tigger. Go so many comments out of that costume, and I loved it!

My most awesome costume ever was the cheetah girls! My girls looked amazing and the baby was a cheetah baby! :cool1: We seriously need to develop that film? It was before we stepped into the new millineum with the whole digital camera thing.

My best friend and I sometimes did costumes together. One year we were Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, etc...that kind of thing. Then when we were 13, in 1992, we were into the "rock" group Nelson. They had just played a concert in our tiny little town, and we were obsessed with them. So we bought long blonde wigs, broke out the spandex, and made guitars out of cardboard. Looking back, that was sooooo cheezy, but yet one of my favorites!

I should post a picture. I'll have to find them.

OMG! I did Nelson, too! My college roommate and I had a random idea to dress up as Nelson for Halloween the year they were popular. To our surprise, we were a big hit. I wish I could think of where the pictures were.

Some other favorite costumes: My husband and I went to a party as Hawkeye and Hotlips. And another year in college, my roommate, my sister and I were going to be Huey, Dewey and Louie, but at the last minute my sister couldn't make it. So, my roommate and I carried on as Huey and Dewey, wearing black armbands that said 'Louie' and buttons with anti duck-hunting slogans. :teeth:
