We are going to WDW the end of March and my ds will be close to 8 months. We are trying to formulate our shopping list for wegoshop. I am not real sure what he will be eating then.

He has gone thru all his stage one foods, so will be starting on stage 2 soon. I also forget when I added lunch into the equation for my daughter.

Any feedback would be great!!

My son has always eaten regular foods, we never bought baby food or stages foods. We simply eliminated spices and such from his portion. At 8 months he ate mostly veggies especially carrots, peas, and green beans (canned are already cooked and worked well when fresh home cooked wasn't an option), cooked beans of all kinds especially black beans for some reason, and preferred fish to other meats.

ETA: We were also following the Pediatricians advice. She is the one that told us baby foods were not necessary, and that table foods were fine. She specifically recommended against baby cereals, even. Her exact words were "Overcook the veggies and don't add salt". He was also still on formula until 1 year.

So, every Ped has their own advice, perhaps OP you should consult with your baby's doctor on their recommended nutrition at 8 months.

wow! we didn't start dd on real table food until after 9 months. when she was 8 months she was still eating baby foods, cereals and formula. we followed the dr's advice (1st child) but it made the trip easy for us because her food was so portable! i just popped the top and fed her wherever we happened to be. :)

Thanks for the feedback! Do you remember when you added lunch? Were you still feeding cereal twice a day or when did you stop doing that?

I fed cereal only until we had done a week or so on one type, then added another (started with rice, then oatmeal, etc). When we got through that, I started adding veggies one at a time.

When they got to stage 2 or 3 (whichever has the chunks, my youngest is 5 and I can't remember now), we just started mashing up whatever we were eating and that's what they ate. I put meat in a food chopper so the pieces would be small enough. Once we got to this point, I stopped using baby food altogether.

As far as lunch, I fed him whatever he was eating when I/we ate. At 8 months, he was still getting some formula/ebf too.

she was definitely getting lunch but not a lot. maybe a fruit and some formula but that was about it.

My dd is almost 9 months now. She is almost completely on table food. She is a little funny and doesnt like picking up anything wet in texture so basically she wont eat her fruit so I am having to still spoon feed her some baby food. She loves cheese, bread, gerber yogurt melts, chicken nuggets (bites), gerber cheese puffs, crackers of any kind, pancakes, french toast. We tend to feed her from our plate when we are out to eat. She loves french fries too:) It will be interesting what she gets to eat but we will manage. I will pack some snacks for sure from the Gerber section.

We actually never did any type of baby foods (although the gerber graduate snacks are always in our pantry just for snacky type stuff when the big kids are getting junk HAHA)

My first born followed the traditional progression of breast milk --> cereal -> mashed veggies -> mashed fruits --> and so on. It was a hassle to plan his meals and bring them with us wherever he might go.

My 2nd born went from breast milk to table food (torn, mashed or watered down.) She ate whatever we ate. She never tasted one bite of "baby food."

Guess which kid is healthier? Yep -- #2.

LOL we must have the same pediatrician! No baby food for DD either. :thumbsup2

Location: Castle Rock, CO

I grew up in Monument :)

Anyway, since most baby foods are the food plus water pureed, why are they needed? Guess I don't get it. A blender can do the same thing, with fresh foods.
