What was the worst lie you told to get a day off of work

I once told my boss I wouldn't be in on Monday because I had to take my 83 year old grandmother back to the Masonic Home she lived at. The truth was, she was staying with my parents for the summer and we had her birthday party that Sunday and I drank too much and was a tad hung over Monday morning and the whole work thing wasn't going to work for me:rotfl:

I can't remember lying to get off work. I took time if I needed it. When we unexpectedly became parents, via a miracle, my boss thought I had been planning it all the time and accused me of lying. I asked him if I had ever lied to him before. He apologized.

I never had to lie- we just call a central number and say "not coming in today, calling off sick" and that is it- don't need to make an excuse.

Dead Grandma probably. This was many many many years ago now I just call and leave a voicemail saying Im sick.

I forgot. I went to an early movie and was a few hours late. Oh my shift started THIS time? Oops???!!!! :rotfl:

They had planned a weekend "retreat/team building" thing which is pretty much just an excuse to get really drunk. I hardly drink and can't stand being around drunk people that act crazy (they did this a few months prior and I vowed never again), so I said some one died and I had to drive my grandmother to Mexico....I don't regret it.

Boy Scout here, I call in sick so rarely and it is so well known I don't use sick time for mental health days, I get calls at home from concerned co-workers.

Having worked early hours for 34 years, I have taken a few doozie sick calls.

Thinks like "I won't be in because:"

1) My dog is having a panic attack
2) I ate a bad sausage
3) It might rain and the windshield wipers on my car are broken
4) I locked myself out of the house, and the cost of a locksmith is more than I make in a day.
5) I think I might be starting to catch a cold. They never are, because when they DO catch a cold, they cough and sneeze all over me

Although my favorite was someone calling in sick in the middle of their vacation, they wanted that one day switched from vacation time to sick time. And no, the company won't do that.

I had to leave early to take my car to the repair shop (it was acting funny). In reality I had a job interview.

I once said my car needed the carburetor repaired when in act my car was fuel injected and had no carburetor....lol

I don't think I've lied, but the reason that sticks out was that I had vision problems. "I can't see myself coming in there today".

I also told the same boss (great guy, undestood my thinking) that I would not be in the next day because I needed an attutude adjustment day. If I had to see a certain coworker the next day, i would say things I would regret and he would have to fire me.

Not sure what my worst was, but I was pretty bad back when I hated my job. At one review I was told I had more sick days (by SEVEN!) than anyone else in my department and it cost me 1/2 percent of my raise. Let's see, an extra weeks vacation for $300? I'll take that deal!

I don't think I have ever lied to get out of work. We just called and said we were taking a sick day. They even encouraged us to take "mental health" days.

Dawn

Told them I had a stomach virus. Then the next day I told them I had diarehha (sp?) from the virus so I got two days off. ;)

DD is sick on Wednesday & the other DD got it on Friday. I met with the bank Wednesday & drove to Indiana to buy a boat on Friday.

Migraine.

It was a bad hangover from too much brandy the night before. Never had brandy since...

I've had my share of "well" days, though. Generally, just a "stomach bug" does it.

I once told a boss that my mother was embracing her Jewish ancestry and insisted I spend the first night of Hanukkah with her. In reality I wanted to go out with my boyfriend on our anniversary. :rolleyes1

I hope no one is too offended by that. I was 20 and dumb, and in no way advocate the appropriation of a faith just for the holidays. :flower3:

On a day my shift was supposed to start at 4 a friend called me at 11 saying she could get is backstage for a festival featuring Blues Traveller, Black Crows and Ziggy Marley. I instantly took to the paper, found an obit of someone I didn't know, then called the restaurant to claim he was a cousin of my Mom. Then I was really hungover from the concert, so I called out the next day to "attend the wake"

If there was a weekend event or holiday that I wanted off, I had to be "out of town" - gotta love the restaurant biz.

There were a few times I've had a "stomach bug" when in reality I had a job interview.
