What Walking Shoes Do You Prefer for WDW?

Is there "really" a break in time for GOOD shoes?

Since we have been dealing with podiatrist and regular PCP about foot issues, I brought this subject up. Said, if they are WELL fitting shoes, (fitted properly) you shouldn't need to break them in.

Has anyone else had the experience of NOT having to break in their shoes? I just have never owned a pair of shoes without needing some break in period, but now have two Dr's tell me that's not so, if they are proper fitting shoes.

Do I just not know how to buy decent shoes??

I thought the same thing. I also never knew shoes weren't supposed to hurt your feet, until I got my Tevas. No break-in period and my feet love them. This past week I found the same thing was true with Crocs when I bought a couple of pairs and started wearing them to walk my dog every day. I hate going from my Tevas or Crocs back to tennis shoes. I have Teva Pretty Rugged Leather Sandals, Teva Mush flip flops, Teva Olowahu flip flops, and Crocs in the Beach and Nile styles. I'm not sure which of them will be traveling to WDW with me in May, but I guarantee no tennis shoes will be in that suitcase.

I bought my Teva Spoilers in Orlando at the beginning of our 17 day vacation.
We spent so much time walking, between the parks and site seeing. I couldn't believe how comfortable these sandals were, at the end of the day I felt like I could keep going. I have never had a shoe that felt so great, right from day one.
Happy trails :earsboy:

No. A good, well fitting shoe should require no break-in period. They should be soft and flexible where they need to bend, support your foot based on how you pronate, and be comfortable. The most you should need to do is wear them for a day or so to ensure there aren't any parts that eventually chaff/irritate you...even good shoes can have a manufacturing defect once in a while.

For your second question, it depends, but it's also getting tougher to find shoe salespeople with a clue. Thanks to the walmartization of America, the small shoe store with a guy (usually) who knows shoes, feet, and how people walk are becoming rarer and harder to find.

We learned through trial, error, and much research that the only shoes we're happy with at WDW are New Balance walking shoes. NB is one of the few sneaker companies that make truely wide widths (EE and wider) and have different models for people who have "normal", under and over pronation. We're just not sandals people, especially in a park full of people who use strollers as rams to get through crowds. We'll be there in our NB 4E shoes, thorlo socks, and Blistershield. Hundreds of WDW miles, no blisters.

Of course, YMMV.

I personally love sketcher Tennis Shoes. I am pooh sized, and walking really takes a toll on my feet. This year for Christmas my mom got me a pair, and for our two week trip to disney, I did not have ONE painful foot day! Try them, you will love them! :cheer2:

Thanks all. Hoping by Sept. to invest $$$ into our shoes and won't need a "big" breaking period.
