What vitamins and supplements do you take?

Vitamin D; Never had low levels until after bariatric surgery. It's a common side-effect. Nutritionist feels I have adequate calcium in my diet so no need to add this.
Lutein- Recommended by my optometrist
Biotin- For hair and nail thinning, also caused by bariatric surgery (and now, I guess old age) and recommended by my nutritionist.

Zinc
Vitamin C
Vitamin D
Flax Seed (cold milled ground/don't think the pills work the same on me)
Multivitamin Gummies

I should probably take a calcium pill

I tried Magnesium - not sure if they were bothering me after taking them about three days so I stopped. Is there a good time to take them? Night/day/meal - I should google
Magnesium Glycinate not Oxide Take an hour or 2 before bed. Helps with sleep as well. Also, a handful of walnuts I've tried it and it helps with sleep.

I take D, K2, a multi, B12 once or twice a week and a high quality iron occasionally.

I don’t eat a lot of animal products so the B12 is for that.

I’ve been anemic on and off during my life ( long before stopping eating meat) so I take the iron I’d say once every ten days or so just in case but I’m not currently anemic and getting enough iron from my diet.

The K2 is to help with the absorption of the D.

For those who take biotin, do you find it makes much difference in your hair and nails?
A nutritionist told me it was a waste of money.
Would like to hear some first hand accounts on results.

The vast majority of vitamins do nothing for you. Many studies have confirmed this.

Your much better off spending the money used on vitamins for self care, massage, gym memberships or anything else.

We as Americans stubbornly refuse to acknowledge science on this topic.

There are a handful of vitamins that treat certain disease states. Other than that, most are just making expensive pee.

I keep reading about Magnesium helping for sleep. Any specific kind? Mg? I read 100-300 mg daily. Supermarket has 400. First time I bought and tried them, they ended up in the garbage. I think they bothered my stomach. Now, I wanted to try them again. I split them in half.

But I am curious if there are different ones/gummies, milligrams, etc. If I don't forget, I will also ask my primary when I go for a follow-up.

Thank you.

I just started taking Magnesium Glycinate 200mg. They are horse pills though, hard to swallow. I didn't notice any difference and I've tried just about anything I could get my hands on for my chronic insomnia. Valerian root, melatonin, Ambien, cbd gummies, trazodone. It has gone into overdrive now that I'm post menopausal. I just got a prescription for HRT and fingers crossed the Progesterone component(Prometrium) will help me, I get about 3 hours of broken sleep a night.

I’m a 42yrs male. 5’10” and 245lbs. No major medical conditions and not on any medications. I have been adding supplements to my diet to help increase my lacking energy and joint/back stiffness. I am also looking to improve my diet & exercise, to get my weight down before I start to develop more serious issues. At 42 it’s now or never.

this is what I am currently taking From a vitamin and supplement standpoint

Multivitamin - Essential 1 (Procaps)
Fish Oil - Essential Omega 3 (Procaps) 1,210 mg
D3 (Nature Made) 25 mcg / 1000 iu
Magnesium (Doctor’s best) 400 mg
CBD Oil - full spectrum (Veritas Farms) 1,000 mg

I’ve been taking the multivitamin and fish oil for about a month now. I added the D3 and magnesium a week ago. I start the CBD hopefully today or Monday if the mail delivers on time.

I am also taking Metamucil 4in1 (fiber). This has been a god sent. I am far less bloated, I seem to have no more issues with indigestion/heartburn, I’m not waking up at night to urinate. And I am definitely getting the junk out of my system on a more regular basis. It is also helping with my Appetite and over eating which has been the biggest issue with my weight.

I need to Figure out a better schedule of taking the supplements along with the fiber, because I am reading that the fiber can impact the supplements from really getting through your system as good as it should. If you take them together, your system isn’t going to absorb the vitamins and supplements as well.

The improvements with how I feel are very noticeable just in the few weeks that I’ve been doing this. I have lost 6-7lbs already - I’m certainly not in need of buying new pants yet, but my belt definitely feels less tight.

yes, I do know and understand that diet and Exercise are really the most important. And I know not to be depending on the supplements alone.

what are you taking and what am I missing? I would like to improve my hair and skin health, as well as increase my semen production.

First, congratulations on working out a program to help you feel better and lose weight:)

I used to have bad colds with resulting infections every winter, and so did my husband. Now? I don't have any colds at all, and it is all down to one vitamin! I started taking 1000 units Vitamin C every day, religiously, no skipping. It took several months to see the results, and I had amazing results. I haven't had a cold or sinus infection since I started on daily Vitamin C. My husband continued to have bad sinus infections all winter, and finally realized what Vitamin C did for me. So, he started on a regimen of one a day - he takes 500 units daily. It took a few months to work, and the next winter he had No sinus infections or colds. This has been at least 5 years ago since we started Vitamin C and we just don't have colds/sinus anymore. We live in "cold" central in Mn. with a long cold wet winter. Will it work for everyone? I don't know, but I do know that it worked for us.
Besides Vit. C, I been taking D3, Vit E and Occuvite for my eye condition. That's it. But the changing factor in our colds/sinus was only the Vitamin C.

I don't know if this will help you, but it couldnt hurt to take a Vit C tablet. I do believe it works on other conditions too. Good luck:) Oh, Vit C does not build up in the body so no problems with that.

I take 1500 mg Tumeric every day and it's been a lifesaver.

I had knee pain so bad I could hardly make it up and down the stairs.

I started taking Tumeric and the relief was like night and day.

I've probably been taking it for 4 years now.

I have a hard time swallowing pills that are huge :( - Right now I am splitting the Nature's Bounty 400 MG. Size for these are big and okay because they are "smooth/gel" I think. Still a bit big but I cut them in half anyway and throw the other half out since it's liquid in there. I don't want 400mg. I did google Magnesium for sleep and see various ones including the one I bought and lower doses. I will look for one of these that popped up so I won't have to split it. Will look for Glycinate too.

Thank you.

A bit off topic but a chi machine might help with your joint & back stiffness.

Multivitamins and magnesium helped a bit, but timing them with fiber was tricky for me too, I usually leave at least an hour gap between fiber and the rest to help with absorption. CBD oil was surprisingly useful for me, especially for sleep and some lingering back pain. To help with hair and skin, I started biotin and upped my omega-3 intake, and that seemed to give things a little boost.

I got curious about how I could make things more tailored to what my body actually needed, which led me to try something that offers personalized supplement cycles. I set it up with my health info and synced it through Menalam. Helped a lot with organizing what I take and figuring out better timing.
