What used to be where BLT is now?

Oh ok. Yeah, I guess BLT is much more lucrative than a garden wing section.

Just curious, did anyone ever stay there? How did you like/dislike it?

We stayed in the wing in the '80s and because we had to walk through the Contemporary game room to get to the monorail, we hated it. Our youngest DS was a video game junkie and it was a pain to get him past that room. I didn't know about walking over to the MK, but someone here has mentioned that we may not have been able to walk to it at that time.

^Back in the 80s when you went there was no bus depot at MK, all busses went to TTC, and if I recall correctly there was no real way you could walk over to MK from Cont.

I stayed in the garden wing on the other side back in the early '70s! I think the place had only been open a couple of years. Went with my parents and loved it! Only park was the MK. The monorail was very futuristic! I was a little disappointed that we were not in the tower, but it was WDW.

We stayed in the South Wing while they were in the process of demolishing the North Wing. They were pretty much identical.

But we really enjoyed our stay in the South Wing.

Just curious. Was there a garden wing section there or was it a parking lot, nothing?

We spent our honeymoon in the now demolished North Wing in 1979. When I think of all of the changes over the years, it is rather amazing. But is was strange to see the North Wing come down.

We stayed in the North wing and in the Tower ~ 12 years ago in December. Great place to stay if going to MVMCP. It was less than 10" walk to MK, which was fun. We had a garden view and it was very pleasant. The CR just isn't our taste but we had a wonderful trip. (We have a BLT trip planned in May, just to check it out).

I came across some photos of the North Wing as it was being demolished (some thought at the time it was an asbestos abatment project ;) )

I don't go back very far :3dglasses

When was the last time you could get a room at the CR for $29 to $49 per night?....1972

Gone but not forgotten! :)

Wow, what a blast from the past. Thank you for sharing those photos and the copy of the reservation card. I've never stayed at the CR but I'm feeling sentimental about that north wing just from hearing other's stories. :sad1:

Our first onsite trip we stayed in the NGW. Shades of Green took over the wing during their renovation, so we stayed for $79 a night.

DS's were 4&6 and that was the year we purchased DVC.

I remember the demolition started in fall 2004 because the rumors were swirling and we stopped by the wing to say goodbye and take the boys last pic in front of the "watch me grow " chart on the playground. :)

The first time my family ever stayed on site was in the south garden wing in 1991. We thought it was great! I remember when my dad was booking it..he wanted the cheapest room at CR...they said ok garden wing? he said sure..they said..looking at the parking lot? He said YES! lol

...

They did have to abate the asbestos before they could demolish the building. EPA regulations.

There was the garden wing, I think it wasnt getting used as much or some complaints like seen on here.... who knows. It seems more logical to have changed it to BLT.

We stayed there a couple times and loved it. Many of the rooms have such nice views of the lake and spanish moss covered trees on a white sand beach. If you were lucky enough to get a first floor lake view room, ducks would come up to your room and there was a slider and small patio. Walking to the MK was great, especially when we stayed there and our kids were young. The rooms also were huge. It was convenient to the food & fun center which was the snack bar and arcade. Easy to get soda refills too. I do miss that wing, but I think DVC has really brought a good change to the CR, with all the remodels and new configuaration. Plus, now I can stay there on points. There's nothing like staying at a monorail resort.

I remember Disney did not renovate the North Garden Wing when the rest of CR was done. It was the first DVC clue.

Does anyone think the South Garden wing will eventually be replaced by a tower?
