Hi All!

We're leaving for DL on 21June!! Very excited to say the least as I have not been to DL since I was 6!!

Being in the airlines, I'm used to security. What kind of security do they have in effect at DL/DCA? Are there metal detectors, do they search bags, do they prohibit certain items (apart from the common-sense prohibited items) like water bottles?

Also, now that I have your ear, what kind of strollers do they have for rent? My 4 year old will definitely want one. Are there doubles or just singles?

Thanks! I'll be sure to post my trip report on my return!!

:)

No metal detectors. They do search bags and they will ask you not to bring in certain items. (I've had sandwiches and chips not allowed in before.) They do rent strollers, single and double. I believe the singles are $7 and the doubles are $12.

P.S. As far as other security measures, I have heard a rumor that there are anti-aircraft guns on top of Cinderella's Castle. ;)

WOW! I've NEVER been told I can't bring something into the park! We go ALL the time too (a couple of times a month). We always bring PB&J for the kids, fruit, water, and juice. They normally just look in the bag and allow us to go through. Sometimes they make silly comments about joining us for lunch or something, so certainly acknowledging the fact that we've got food with us.-- I know your not allowed to bring in glass bottles, and have never attempted. -- Oh, I've seen people told that they aren't allowed to bring in large hard side igloos. When we bring my dad along we always bring a medium sized soft side igloo full of drinks and medication (he's sick and needs his meds and also can't drink anything offered at the park) and they've never questioned that either.

There is a no-fly zone over and around Disneyland Resort.

When I was there in February, there was an National Guart helocopter flying around all afternoon long...not sure if it was coincidence or not.

The no fly zone goes away in February of 2004, thank God.

They will search all bags you bring in, including camera bags and shoping bags. There is a police presence at the both the parks, downtown Disney and the resort area. Officially no outside food or drink is allowed but I have never been told I couldn't bring it in. But if they do tell you know there are lockers outside the gates for you to store it in until meal time. They will not let you in with glass containers (except for baby food) and alcholic beverages (Disneyland Park is "dry").

mateasmom...you must have a kind face or something because I have been stopped many times and asked not to bring in food. We have a 3 year old and I carry the food and such in a backpack but sometimes I go through another line (if it's faster) and the security screeners don't know that I have a child. Almost everytime I have to tell the screeners that the food is for my DD. I have even had them go so far as to ask me where she is.

I don't have any problem with this, because I was under the impression that it is Disney's policy not to allow outside food and drinks into the parks. If that's their rule, than that's their rule. Maybe they are lax on it a lot of times but they still (and sometimes will) stop you and ask you not to bring it in the parks. I know this because it has happened to me many times.

That is interesting - I have never had my food taken away - I am usually just have snacks (fishes, fruit roll-ups, pretzels) and water bottles - but still, no problems - Must be a just a matter of who you get when you go thru -

You are right--it is their policy that no outside food or drink comes in. They even announce it on the tram ride in that there are lockers and picnic area outside the park for you to use if you have brought in your own food. I have been shocked lately to see folks sitting at restaurant tables with a whole cooler full of food they have brought in. So, I guess it is just who you get searching you--but I think if it is the rule, they should be consistent so there was not such confusion.

Yes, it must depend on who is doing the searching. When I was entering DL one day the people next to me had a grocery bag with a loaf of bread, etc. and went through without a hitch. The only thing I saw in 4 days at DLR being taking away were glass containers.
