Hi!

We'll be visiting DC in Dec and I was wondering if you could please tell me about the lunch options...

What is offered? Where do you eat? What's the food quality?

Thanks-
Sheila

i went to DC in 2001 & can only say that the lunch buffet was excellent (included in cost for the day). I can't remember the details. we also had some drinks & snacks at the snack stands - you pay extra for this. I found this web site for you... www.wdisneyw.co.uk/dcmenu2.html. Hope this helps.

I found this site which lists the lunch options:

I am assuming that it is up to date. I haven't been there yet so I can't testify to the quality but other people have reported that the food is very good.

Were going there in December too. Hopefully the weather will be warm.

We were at DC in Feb and the food was wonderful! Choices included pecan-crusted salmon, jambalaya, chicken fingers, bacon cheeseburger, pasta and more- all prepared fresh! It was hard to choose one! There were also side salads and many desserts. There are lots of umbrella tables to eat at as well as some tables under cover; they also had a calypso band playing which was very pleasant. One section is designated smoking. A large soft drink is included and you can go back for refills. I think they sold alcohol also.
It was a wonderful experience!

they have lunch selections coming out the wazoo. If you or the kids can't find something you like it is only because you have an extremely obtuse diet. There are steak and chicken fajitas, hamburgers, hotdogs, pastas, grilled chicken, roast beef, ham, plain dinner salads, pasta salads, chicken fingers, sandwiches, wraps. Desserts for days. Cool food, Hot Food.

Where? there is a main lunch hall... cafeteria style... not buffet. Surrounding the Cafeteria is more then ample seating and tables... all in the shade.... unless you want one in the sun. The main Lunch place is centrally located so it is roughly equidistant from either of the park extremes. Though you can find beach seating close to it.

Food quality? Well it isn't like eating at Maxims in New York, or the Chef's Table at Victoria and Alberts. But it isn't Taco Bell either. I would say for its purpose it is pretty good food. It is...oh... just normal food...nothing of mind blowing culinary food channel expertise. And it is good. Its on par with most mid scale chain restaurants like chili's, applebees, and the like. But not on par with a fine restaurant serving up steak diane, beef wellington, creme Brulee, and cherries jubilee.

The one thing I can say about the food is - It is Florida .... It is hot .... unless you have a mind boggling appetite and metabolism keep it light and cool. Afterall, you are in the blazing sun - what are you downing a hot plate of lasagna for? To heat up your insides even more? So anyway, I would suggest a cool salad or something else relatively light and cool.

As to drinks and icecreams and such - there are two main snack shops. One is about midway into the park and is readily accesible from the main beach off of which all the dolphin swims occur. There is another snack shop that is more remotely located closer to the entrance and right next to the Stingray pool. That is normally where we will sit because it is possible to find areas that are shaded the entire day with easy access to the lazy river, the aviary, the ray pool, and the tropical pool. We stayed on the main beach once and it is OK but most of the activities are closer to the entrance of the park.

Thank you so much, Nataliesdaddy! I appreciate the detailed information!

U R Welcome

should you go ... you will love it. Very peaceful and relaxing - a nice change of pace from the more hectic Universal and Walt Disney World experience. We ended a Disney World vacation that way once and it was the perfect way to come down and unwind from a week of Disney energy. Since then we have actually built entire vacations around DC. Last time we started with a weekend at DC, and a couple of days at seaworld, then a couple at universal and then ended at DC. You pretty muhc have to be obsessed with fish to do that much of DC, but my daughter is pretty much obsessed with fish so it works well. She'd sit in the water all day with a dolphin if they let her.

Oh one last thing, if you aren't into funky smells.... do not be in the stingray pool when they feed the stingrays. YOU WILL smell like saltwater fish for a good while after. Personally my daughter and I just like to be able to be in the water with the rays and feed them the fish and shrimp ourselves so we didn't really care if we smelled like fish for a while... But that would seriously turn some people off. SO.... if you don't want yourself or your kids to smell like a can of tuna don't go in the ray pool when they are doing the feeding...

Its SO worth the $$$$ !! we were there last july 4th and it was way better than I could've imagined!

Can we bring our own water bottles for hydration and light snacks and store them in the lockers ?

Or is it $2.75 per bottle of water x 4ea x 2 people for the day ($22 in drinking water)?

I don't think they allow any outside food and drink to be brought into the park. I dont' remember that we had anything at all with us when we arrived. Lockers are not that big and you get one per family. We were able to get our shoes, outer clothing and valuables in the locker. Not much room for anything else.

Plus they give you an ID when you arrive with your photo on it that has credit card info on it, so you use that to purchase everything.

I always walk in the gate with a 24 oz bottle of water in my hands and they never make me leave it at the gate. I don't think they would say anything about a few snacks for the kids in your purse; but they might frown on sandwiches etc. Lockers aren't big and no coolers allowed to keep sandwiches safe to eat.

To cut back on price of meals in the theme parks we generally eat before we go. Then we eat a late lunch. If you do the BBQ at Smokey Grill it is enough food to make it through the night-especially if you share the yummy cheese cake for dessert. Actually my husband and I even share a combo platter of chicken and beef , get one slaw, and we usually throw away most of the french fries.
We usually snack on popcorn if someone does get hungry.

If there's one thing the Busch parks know how to do, it's great food.

You will be impressed.

It is nice to hear all the positive comments on the food at Discovery Cove. We will be doing the "Trainer for the Day" on June 30th. It is a birthday gift for my daughter. We are so excited.

I just called and they said you CAN bring bottled water into the park, just NO coolers! We will just put them in our back packs.
