What TV shows are you giving up--if any

With the new season coming, are you giving up any shows? We DVR a lot, but even w/ that we are trying to make decisions as to what we are watching. Our 10 pm NBC shows being bumped to 9 has created a bit of an issue too.

We are giving up on The Biggest Loser. After the manipulations, and increased product placement, it just wasn't enjoyable.

I can record up to 4 things at a time. So far, so good.;)

I do admit that I fast forward alot of reality shows to the end.

I will give BL a try since the theme is "second chances". I just skip over the crap.

We can record 2 at a time, and watch something we previously have on DVR. I'm seriously considering a second DVR in my bedroom. How sad is that.

If Desperate Housewives is as bad as last season I might have to give it up.

How Clean is Your House is about to get removed. It's just gotten repetitive.

I prey the wife gives up Grey's Anatomy. Stupidest, most overrated show on tele.

With two tuners, the only time slot we have to make any hard choices about is Thursday 8PM. We're going to pass on Vampire Diaries.

However, there are shows that we've watched in the past that we simply stopped watching, for one reason or another. We stopped watching Survivor a while ago. And although we've recorded many of the Criminal Minds episodes we missed since we stopped watching it in January (due to conflicts with others shows), I don't think we'll watch them, nor pick the show up again this fall. Something was lost when Mandy Patinken left the show.

In addition, there are a couple of shows that we probably will get to, but won't watch them as they're broadcast, just storing them up for when (and if) we need them: Brothers and Sisters, and Private Practice.

This year I'm dumping House & Grey's Anatomy.

We dropped cable last year and because we no longer had a DVR we dumped so many shows, we use to be TV junkies now we only watch a handle of shows.

i gave up "CSI: Miami" for "Castle", last season but watched the shows i missed online later in the week, and i'll continue to do that this season. i don't think we have any other conflicts, at least until "The Closer" and "Leverage" begin new episodes again in January.

Yes, Private Practice (comes on after Grey's Anatomy). I used to DVR both, but one episode was about something so awful that I will not be watching this season.

American Idol.

And not because Paula left and Ellen joined on. It's just so contrived and manipulated, I don't believe any of the contestants get to the finals by talent or chance. The producers control way too much of that show.

Really - None.

About a year ago I just stopped watching TV. Any time I wanted to watch something it seemed I got pre-empted by my kids or DH so I just gave up. And truthfully, I don't really miss it. I will half pay attention to what the kids or DH is watching, but I spend most of my time on the internet :surfweb: or reading instead.

Gave up J&K Plus 8 a long, long time ago - couldn't stand to watch the exploitation anymore - tried to watch Bridezillas for a bit last night and was no longer interested in that either.. One of my soaps - The Guiding Light - will show their final episodes this week (after being on either the radio or tv for 72 years) - and I can't seem to find much of anything I'm interested in watching on a regular basis.. Even the 3 remaining soaps that I normally tape have become incredibly boring..

Now it's more of a matter of what I happen to "catch" while flipping through the channels.. Seems I'd rather read than watch tv these days..:confused3

My shows include (all of which are recorded):
House
Monk
30 Rock
SNL
Weekend Update Thursday
Damages
Weeds
Californication
Jon & Kate plus 8
True Blood
The Biggest Loser
The Real World
RW/RR challenges
The Amazing Race
The Good Wife (new)

None interfere with each other (2 recording at a time) LUCKILY since I would be so annoyed to find out I missed any of them.

But randomly, if something doesn't get recorded or can't due to scheduling conflicts.... usually one of them can be seen online or onDemand so that one will get bumped.

Of those, the only one I am losing interest in is Jon & Kate plus 8 because:
1. I HATE Jon and have no intention on watching the parts he's in.
2. I don't enjoy how it's all-- where can we go next? what can we buy now? what can we remodel?

I used to watch all the CSi shows, but decided that I was on csi overload. So I dropped `em all. Gave up on Desperate housewives a couple seasons ago.

Some shows that I liked were canceled, such as Journeyman, Dr. Vegas, and Pushing Daisys. Too bad, the only NBC show I will watch now is Heroes, and that one I might drop as well. They are getting quite bizarre these days. I have to pay extra to DirecTV to watch NBC, and if I decide Heroes is gone, I will probably drop the channel altogether and save some bux on my monthly bill.

Watched Survivor when they did the show from Australia, since I have been to the outback of Queensland. The rest of them didn't interest me.

I'll probably want to keep up with new episodes of the Mentalist. Kind of like CSi, but lighter and much funnier.

Maybe the new Stargate series when it comes out.

Currently, I prefer to watch The O'Reilly Factor over the "entertainment" shows of the day. I learn much more that way, and can keep up with current events easier.

With that much on my plate, I'm still spending too much time in front of the b00b tube. So I end up using the DVR, and I might get to some of these shows by next summer. :rolleyes1

9:00 on Thursday and Friday is now packed so I have to give up CSI and Ugly Betty - Fringe and Dollhouse have trumped them and I can only tape two things - 30 Rock and Medium are my must haves ....

I think Ugly Betty was cancelled, so at least you are not missing that one:)

ETA--Never mind, just saw that it is on Fridays now. My girls will be happy

DVR lovers you should look into ATT UVerse - you can record 4 things at the same time and you can watch your recordings on any TV. We switched from Directv about 6 months ago and we love it. :lovestruc

Back to the topic at hand - I have given up several shows the past year, some because they just got too stupid and all because I am just so busy lately. I have given up:

CSI
Grey's Anatomy
Nip/Tuck
Heroes
Everything on VH1
90210
Desperate Housewives
Fringe
American Idol
So You Think You Can Dance
