What Travel Insurance do you recommend?

My family and I will be sailing on the Disney Wonder in March 2019 (from Ottawa Ontario) and from what I have read, because I am not purchasing my flights from Disney, I should purchase travel insurance from an outside company and I was wondering what travel insurer you would recommend and any advice you can give about things we should be looking for as I have never purchased travel insurance from a non Disney travel company when sailing with Disney.
Thank you for your help :)

I always use Blue Cross at least for medical part because of their first pay clause. Esp important if you happen to have extended medical. Some insurance companies will try to recoup costs by going after your extended benefits.
Be sure to also get trip interruption/cancellation. And be sure you arrive at the cruise departure city the day before the cruise. My friend works at a cruise port for Holland America and you’d be surprised how many miss their cruise because of flight delays.

I use Travel Guard Canada for insurance. They are excellent! They offer really good coverage, they are the least shady of all insurance companies I have worked with (I used to be a travel agent) and they have excellent customer service. They offer medical, trip cancellation/interruption, all inclusive packages, annual packages and family packages. Their premiums are fare and they have some add on features for their trip cancellation packages that range from 5 - 20 dollars for things like cruise & tour packages, weather delays (like hurricanes), and a few more. They have added benefits that other insurance companies don't offer and the claims process is very smooth.

FYI - as a Canadian, don't buy the insurance Disney offers - it's not valid for Canadians!! and US medical and travel insurance coverage is terrible compare to what we offer in Canada.

Hang on. Has this changed, insurance through Disney no longer valid for Canadians? Or has Disney changed their insurance company? Oh wait - maybe you mean medical insurance through Disney?

I cannot speak for medical insurance through Disney but we had great experience with vacation/trip insurance through Disney. This goes back to 2011 however.

I purchased trip insurance with my Disney package (Travel Guard) when my husband & I were going to go back to Disney by ourselves. Our trip date was for September 2011.
POP Century, Dining and 9-day MYW park hopper tickets. NO FLIGHTS. We booked those ourselves.

My Mom ended up in the hospital in July and was sick for a long long time afterwards. My parents were no longer able to look after our kids in September.

Travel Guard reimbursed our flights 100%.

We've never made it back to Disney so far.

We have taken a lot of Disney cruises and have bought insurance through Disney (non medical) in the past as it was strangely inexpensive! It’s been a few years since we have bought insurance with them, but looked at it for our upcoming cruise and they told us it didn’t cover Canadians anymore. They have either changed companies or the insurance company has changed their policies.
