What Trading Spaces Designer Would You Want/Not Want (Insp. by PamOKW)

I would probably want Frank...he does some crazy stuff sometimes but he always seems to respect what people like and don't like.

I would NEVER let Hilde or Doug near my home! My neighbors and I have always talked about trying to get on the show but I would be petrified of those two. Plus my husband would have someone's head if they ever took his ceiling fans.

I don't know, I've seen them all do rooms that I've loved and rooms that I've hated. I'm too picky about my style and what my space looks like to ever let someone have free run to do something like that to my home anyway.

I don't really have one that I'd particularly want to do a room, but I do know Hilde would NOT be allowed to touch anything in my house! I can't stand her style at all!

Vern can do anything he wants in any room of my house anytime! I like some of Gen's stuff, and some of Laurie's. But I gotta agree, most of Doug's & Hildi's stuff is just not my style.
While I love Frank's designs, I would always feel like I was living in a "Country Clutter" store! I like some of his stuff, but I couldn't live with it!

You're right, Vern is pretty good. They don't have him on enough.

I have a rule that I would never have anyone who made someone cry tears of anguish. I don't think Vern has. =)

I'll never forget the show where Doug painted that couple's living room brown and sawed the legs off of their coffee table then she had to excuse herself from the room to burst into tears when she saw it. Yikes!

Doug is a bit arrogant, but pretty stylish
I really like Vern's designs
I really like Frank's designs
Genevive is a little wacky
Laurie is a bit too much Southern Belle, but still very stylish most of the time

So I could take any of those 5, but I swear if I ever saw Hilde heading up my walk, I would bolt the door, and escape out the back door.

Hildie and Gen I wouldn't even let in the fron door.

And Ty would definatly have to be the carpenter. He's such a HOTTIE!

If it was my bedroom I would want Vern or Genevive. (I loved the dark blue, arabian-like bedroom she did for a girl one time)

If it was any other room in my house, I would want Frank, Vern, or possibly Laurie. I could probably handle anyone except Doug or Hilde!

Genevieve and Hildi are a little too wild for my taste. And while Laurie has done some very pretty rooms they're not something I would want. But don't even get me started on Doug. Definitely not Hildi. Hay episode aside, she's too ... I don't know the word I'm trying to think of ... cosmopolitan? trendy? European? ... for my tastes. All the hay ep did was solidly put her into the "definitely not" category.

Same with that Dez lady they rarely have on there. She seems to have the same tastes as Hildi, and she seems too disorganized.

Vern is at the top of my list of the designer I would want. I don't think I've seen him do a terribly bad room yet. He seems to be the only one who listens to what the homeowners want in terms of sprucing up and color before he puts his personal touches on it.

As for the others --

Doug might get on my nerves a bit, but he's done some good stuff (DW Lauri liked the "pretty" bedroom he did). Frank's tastes run a little TOO country for me, but he seems like a really nice and funny guy. He would be my pick to do a kids room. Genevieve does some pretty nice stuff. As long as she didn't put moss in the room, I could handle anything she did. I also like some of Laurie's stuff, but she couldn't do the den, because I know she would remove the ceiling fan. She removes it, she can deal with the dog who likes to lay under the fan and cool her belly. Only drawback -- DW is also a redhead named Lauri; could I deal with two redheaded Lauris??

Definitely Hilde... gosh, did you see that disaster of a living room she did on the episode last night? The one with the Hay for wallpaper...what was she thinking?

Frank is a bit scary, as well! I tend to like Gen's style the best... Laurie isn't bad, either. Vern, from what I have seen isn't too over the top, so I could probably live with that.

If I saw Hilde coming anywhere near my house I would run the other way!!!

Frank is too cutesy and folksy for me. I am not into that country/craft look that he does. I think some of his ideas are great, but not very sophisticated.

Vern always designs in the same colors: red and gold or brown tones. Hate it.....I think some of his ideas are also good, but again, not for me. More for grownups, but his pallette gets old.

Doug is just too arrogant and rude for me. I can't believe he went through one couple's dresser drawers and then enlarged a private photo they had!

Laurie does nice designs.....but selects colors for HER house. She always seems to lean towards colors that match her hair. Well, not everyone is happy with orange and gold. They only work for people who naturally have warm tones in their skin, and those people are not exactly the majority.

Hilde can be OK, but she comes up with some very frightening ideas at times. I couldn't trust her in my house, and I don't want someone to paint my antique furniture.

Genevieve also can be OK, but some of her "crafts" are just ridiculous.

The show I liked the best had both Vern and Hilde as the designers. Page kept exclaiming they were both creating rooms that went totally against what they would normally do. Those were the only rooms I have seen on the show that I thought were tolerable, because they took into consideration what works for the homeowners, and what the homeowners liked. The other shows seem to be about shocking people out of their comfort zone. Well, I for one, want to be in the middle of my comfort zone when I am at home! Isn't that the point?

I don't think I've watched the show enough, cause I don't know all the designers.

I do like what Frank generally does. I'd only want him in my kitchen or bathroom though (I know they don't do bathrooms, but I REALLY need some bathroom help). I actually kinda liked what Doug did with a couple of bedrooms (the one where the painted artwork on the walls using an overhead projector -- liked the art, just didn't like the colors). Doug definitely has the pompous chiseled thing going. Also I really liked what that one woman did with the couples kitchen (on the hay episode, but not the one who did the hay in the living room). She could do my dining room.

I don't think I'm letting anyone in my living room!

I've liked almost every design that Vern has done, so I'd pick him.

I would love to work with Frank, he seems so sweet and funny. But I don't really like country/crafty design, so he would be my last pick.

OMG My brother & I had this conversation last weekend!

He likes Frank and Vern. I like Vern and Lauri. We both agree on Hilde and Doug, we don't care for much of their work.

I was watching the bedroom Doug did where he used the projector to put artwork on the walls- that was really cool, but He was ticked that he wasn't allowed to paint the fireplace, so they covered it with a wall and painted that instead.

What is the deal with taking out everyone's ceiling fans?

I agree with almost all of the comments on this thread about each of the designers.

My cousin and I just finished filling in the application to try to be on the show!(its in the mail today!) I would want either Frank or believe it or not Doug. I love what Frank does and believe it or not I am a person who loves bold colors and I want my livingroom done, while she wants her kitchen done in her tenants apartment below her.
If Hilde even thinks she will come near my house I will have to let the dog out. LOL
I can't believe I finally talked her into applying for the show. We've got to be nuts! I would love some great builtins in my livingroom. The only thing they have to leave my couch as it is a huge sectional and takes up 2 walls!other than that, they would have free reign in my livingroom! Keep your fingers crossed that we make it!

I would have to say none of them. I think they've all had great rooms, and most have had some horrible rooms. It's too much of a crapshoot. I guess I'm incredibly picky about my house. If I was FORCED to have one, I'd probably choose Vern.

I'm excited to see the 2 new designers that they are having for the new season. They both sound interesting, and should bring a new perspective to the show. Also, don't know if you guys have heard, but Dez will be back to fill in for Laurie while she's on maternity leave. That woman scares me!!!!!!!!
