Hi Guys

Last year me and my DW stayed at Disney on our honeymoon. We stayed at the WL and enjoyed it very much. Next year however we will be turning 30. Want to celebrate it by having a vacation back to Disney. As we are at a certain age we are having trouble deciding. Do we go for moderate or Deluxe. Pros and cons are things such as the Free Dining etc.

Can anyone suggest either a deluxe or moderate where we can go, our only previous places we have stayed is WL and ASMovies, should we pay the extra as my DW says its only really a place we sleep!!

Thanks in Advance

Hi! :)

I'm not going to suggest a resort for you because my needs and wants in a resort are probably different to yours, aside from the fact that they change from time to time. I did note your DW's comment that it is only a place to sleep though and I will comment on that in the hope that it helps you put things in perspective.

We also only use our room to sleep and shower in. On that basis I am not averse to staying at a value. Last year we did value and loved it (ASMu). If we were the type of people, or at the stage where spending time at the resort were important, then I would rather do deluxe. My decision is based more on what resort we feel like trying rather than what category it falls into. Location can also be a factor.

What I do believe is that people feel the need to justify the expense of their park tickets and feel that they should spend as much time in the parks as possible. What they miss is the fact that even at a value resort, your room costs more per day than your park entrance. ;) However based on the aforementioned, I think that when you book a 'nicer' resort, you do tend to spend more time there and they also have more to offer in terms of amenities.

Since this is not your first trip and you have a general idea of how you previously structured your days if I were you I would be asking myself:

Are we likely to plan our days the same way?
Would we like more space in our room?
Do we want to enjoy eating TS meals at our home resort?
Will we plan a bit more time in our room (on the balcony if applicable), in the bar or around the pool?

I could rattle off a whole list of things that I look for when choosing and what I like and prefer to avoid, but it really won't help you as I have a child and so what we do with our time is very different to what you may like to do. Likewise, a nice bar area at the resort is really NA for me as single parent, but as a couple, it would be really nice to have.

As WL is our favorite (We like Logs) we have stayed at Mods and enjoyed them very much, I would say as previous posted stated pick a theme you might like and I am sure you will enjoy it. We liked CS and PO Riverside also..

Sadly haven't looked into ree dining for next year, but if the same as last year I personally would go for OKW as the dining gives you 1*cs and 1*ts as opposed to POP and AllStars which was 2*cs. We too only really sllep and shower in room, but OKW was so much more laid back than POP.

Thanks so far, Leaning toward Coronardo Springs, more for selfish reasons as they have a gym. Just thinking this would be our last time to Disney (As a couple) Hopefully the next time we come will be as a Family. I am also thinking about pursuding my DW to take a 3 week vacation and maybe split the hotels but have never done this before so am unsure

On that basis I would do what you think you may not have the chance to do for a while yet after this trip. See, you have already found a factor that has value to you and having the gym there will be something you will enjoy. There are other resorts with gyms too, if that was the only reason. What I will say is that once you have made your decision and booked, don't second guess yourself. There will always be more than one right place for you. Usually it is not a case of better or worse, but simply a case of different.

The beauty of the Disney resorts is that they all have some positives for a family so while with a baby you may prefer a mod or deluxe, with kids, anything from the values through to the top have something special. You will make the right choice. Please keep us up to date. It sounds very exciting.

Regarding split stays they are very simple if you don't have dining plans attached, whether free or paid for. Dining plans are linked to your park tickets being on that reservation so a split stay will call for 2 sets of tickets per person to add the dining plan. Whatever you do though, if you don't want dining plans, make sure you put the tickets with the FIRST resort you stay at, otherwise you can't use them until you check ito that resort.
