Will be repainting kitchen walls and found myself wondering if I should wipe them down first with some sort of solution? If so, what is suggested? They don't seem to have any grease or the such on them but figured with being a kitchen...might be worth doing some prep just in case:confused3

You can buy TSP painting prep solution at any home improvement store - in the painting section. It's pretty strong stuff, so you'll want to wear gloves. You can buy the powder to mix and it's cheaper, but I always just buy the pre-mixed solution in the spray bottle.

It's recommended for cleaning walls before painting any room, but I'd DEFINITELY use it in a kitchen - you'll have cooking residues on your walls, even if you can't see it.

MAke sure you rinse off the TSP - but yes that is the best thing to use.

DO NOT use a Mr Clean Magic Eraser.... I have I know someone that used one and then painted over the wall - the sponge caused the paint to not stick - it would litterally wipe right off... they think it glossed up the surface... it was exactly in the same spots they had rubbed the eraser... and no chemical cleaner had been used.

I was going to say TSP. It removed grease so the paint will stick better

I think Mr Clean eraser sponges have some sort of chemical in them too because I saw pic of a kid who tried to wash his face with one and he had these horrible chemical burns all over his face. They're great for most clean up but for preparing to paint I have to agree that they wouldn't be the best choice.

I used Chlorox wipes and then sanded with a sanding block (easier than sandpaper) and wiped again.

You want a rough surface to paint (not too rough, but not smooth)
