We are going to WDW Dec 9-15. What would you wear for that time of the season? Jacket, sweatshirt, long sleeve shirt, short sleeve shirt, all layered? I am thinking that would be a lot to carry around as the temperature rises during the day. Anyone who has gone recently, how has the temp been? Also, is there a news station or radio station you can turn to in the morning to find out what the temp will be each day, while you are there? Do the value resorts have wireless internet hookups? :confused3

Recent weather won't help you with mid-December, which is 2 or 3 weeks away.

You will need to pack a little of everything because December weather in Orlando is completely unpredictable. You could have warm days with cool mornings, or you could have mornings near freezing with afternoons in the 50s.

Try wftv.com or orlandosentinel.com a day or two before you leave, also watch the local weather on any of the Orlando stations each night and/or morning while you are there.

Here is info on internet access:

This is the week we visit Orlando most years. We've seen all kinds of weather, from very cold, to rainy, to blazing hot. Bring a little bit of everything, and plan on wearing layers. I remember our first December, I only brought one pair of shorts per person, and it was 90+ degrees every day. I washed the shorts in the sink at night! Last year I forgot gloves, and we had to buy them in the parks so our fingers wouldn't freeze and fall off.

I wouldn't dream of carrying the extra layers for my family of 6. We rent a locker, since we stay at a park all day. If you aren't going to head back to your hotel during the day for a break, I highly recommend the locker. It's not expensive, and it works out well.

Thanks for the replies. Can you believe I never thought of a locker?? Duh! You can tell how new I am. I plan to pack clothing for every type of weather although I am hoping for the 80's! Thanks for the links too! :cool1:

What to wear depends a lot upon your sensitivity to weather. I was at wdw Dec 10-16 last year and saw some people wearing toques, gloves and heavy coats. Yet, on the same days I was wearing a tank top. However, as the previous poster indicated, the temperature can change significantly between the daytime and the evenings. I cannot recall where I received temperature information but I do remember finding it easily when in my room. (I don't think the value resorts have wireless hookups, but I didn't try bringing a computer so I cannot be certain.)

If you plan your day such that you take breaks in the middle of the afternoon you can adjust your touring times such that you do not need to carry heavy evening clothing with you during the day. Or if you use a car to get around, you can plan a trip to change as things cool down. You can also put a change of clothing into a locker at the beginning of the day and come back to change when it cools down.

One recommendation: Plan for a complete clothing change (including undergarments and footwear) after any activities in which you may get wet. That said, the water parks are fabulous in the winter--the water is heated and the crowds stay away.

Have a good vacation!

Yes, I am in Texas and I am ALWAYS cold. It was 44 degrees this morning and I thought I was going to freeze to death :rotfl: I love the idea of lockers for storing clothing especially for the night and MVMCP. That day I do plan to go back to the hotel before MVMCP though. I was thinking of trying to keep DD (8) off of the water rides, is that realistic? Or are they too good to miss? :wizard:

We have always been too chicken to try the water rides in December. Which is why we haven't been on Splash Mountain yet, in our 6 family trips. That's almost criminal, from what I read here (because it's such a neat ride) - but we're afraid to be wet and cold all day. This year we'll probably bite the bullet and ride, unless it's REALLY cold.

Ohiodisney family, we are going the same time! Maybe we will see you at Splash Mtn! Have a great trip! :cheer2:

when we went last December, we rode Kali River Rapids right before going back to the hotel for a little break. It was kind of chilly on the bus ride to the hotel but at least we didn't have to walk around the park all day soggy and cold. I wanted to skip Kali but ds was just tall enough to ride it and wanted to try it. When we went in July, he didn't want to ride it, go figure :confused3

When I was there last Dec. the water (on the water rides) was generally warmer than the air. In other words, getting wet was no problem at all. The problem (with cold) only arises when you walk around afterwards in the same wet clothing. If you plan carefully, then you can enjoy the water rides (including the warmth of the water) and continue with your day without getting cold.

Personally, I think that Splash Mtn shouldn't be missed--the theming is fabulous! You'll have to decide for yourself though. If you decide to ride, the following information may help.

It is easy to think, "I'm just getting on the bus back to the resort and then I can change", or, "I'll just change my shirt, my pants aren't that wet", etc.

If you have a complete change of clothing (shirts, pants, socks, underwear, footwear, jacket, hat, gloves, etc.), and you change fairly quickly after getting off the ride (i.e. before leaving the park) then you should be fine. Given that you tend to get cold easily, I would also plan to do water rides right before heading back to the resort so that you can take a warm shower if needed.

Even during the warm months, we hate getting wet and having to walk around in damp clothes for hours. I always buy the cheap, disposeable raincoats that you can pick up at the Dollar Store for $1.00 to take when we ride these rides. I haven't decided if we will brave the water rides at all for this December trip, but if we do will will be completely covered so that our clothing does not get wet.

That is a great idea. I picked up some cheap ponchos at Academy for the possibly of rain. I didn't think about using them for the water rides. Thanks for the idea! :goodvibes

Last time we went at Christmas, the panchos helped to keep us warm and dry. We rode Splash Mountain over and over without wait because we had our panchos on (oh, and gloves!) The kids loved it. Of course, they're boys and couldn't care less about the weather or getting a little wet. But, it was great!
