What to wear to Universal??

the humidity down here in july allows nothing to dry in less than a couple of hours. wear good sandals and get wet. please don't do the wet clothes/dry clothes swap. all the parks down here have water everywhere, because it feels great in the summer. :)

Flip flops are hard to walk in for long distances.
Old sneakers would be a good idea. The only ride you need to watch out for is Popeye. Put your sneakers in the middle compartment after you get in the raft. Guys can put their shirt in there as well. Cargo pants that have a mesh are a good idea for guys as they dry off quickly. Make sure the pockets close so you don't lose anything. I usually take a lap around the park not caring if I get wet, then go back to the hotel room to rest and change cloths for the evening.

When I first stated researching these boards before our first trip, I was surprised that alot of people suggested wearing ponchos. So I bought some.

Well, we didn't need them.

I live in Ohio and grew up going to Cedar Point. Last summer we got so wet that my tennis shoes shloshed as I walked. We love the water rides. There meant to get you wet. Feels great when it's hot.

My advice...skip the water rides if your that worried about getting wet. If you decide to go on them (females) make sure you don't wear a white shirt !!!!!!

In my experience, I found a t-shirt, shorts, fanny pack and broken in tennis shoes and a baseball hat. (also helps keep hair dry for the ladies if worn backwards, so it doesn't fly off)

Another good tip is to bring along and extra pair of socks. After your feet are warm from walking, it's refreshing to put on a new pair.

IMO...you shouldn't go there trying to look good. Be comfortable. Have fun!

We were there in July last year. We wore quick dry shorts and shirts. LLBean has a brand called CoolMax which worked perfectly. They really did dry quickly. I also wore a quick dry sportsbra. On our feet we wore good sturdy sandles or watershoes with a good sole. I always keep one or two good quality plastic shopping bags (not like you get at the grocery store, more like from the IOA/US gift shops) folded flat in my fanny pack so I can put our stuff in it while on the water rides. We usually keep a few ziploc bags handy for the camera and cell phones. We also usually carry a wash cloth or small towel to dry our faces and glasses.

Hope we get there again this summer!

In the summer when I know I will be going on the water rides multiple times, I wear what would be called the "quick dry" outfit. I have one of the work-out type tank tops that dries extremely quickly and nylon shorts. This way you can get wet and not stay that way all day. Avoid jean shorts at all costs! It wasn't me, but someone I was with wore them and let's just say the chafing was REALLY bad.

What we find that works is to use the free lockers by Dueling Dragons or Jurassic Park (can't remember where at the moment), with the FOTL and express passes hit all the water rides at once for the hour or so until the time is up and then take the valuables like cameras out of the locker. Much easier than having to worry about getting them wet.

I hate walking around the parks all day in wet sneakers- the worst feeling in the world! At dorney park they let people on the river rapids ride with bathing suits on and no shoes, i think that was the exception though- at disney/universal you probably have to wear clothes. I'd suggest bringing a change of clothes if you are going on any water type rides and just store it in a locker. It gets much colder at night usually and you definitely don't want to be wet then! As for clothes I'd suggest wearing board shorts, that dry really fast. Avoid sandals at all costs, you will end up getting blisters after a long day of walking. Wear broken in sneakers that are comfortable, and a hat for the harsh sun. Also wear sunscreen if you don't want to experience sunburn for your vacation. Have a good trip :)

The shoes are the thing to look out for. If your shoes get wet, you're done for the day.

You can put them in the middle compartment after you sit down in the raft and buckle your seat belt. But you need to have them on as you enter the raft.

What I usually do is take off my shoes in the line, take off my socks, put them in my pocket balled up, and have my shoe laces loose. When I get in the raft, I buckle the seat belt, put my shoes in the middle, my socks, my shirt, and the ride ops let it go. But you need to be quick when you enter the raft. Make sure you buckle the seatbelt first, then put everything in the middle. The ride ops will let it go if you do all this first.

Then you can enjoy a fun ride with bare feet, no shirt (guys), and even if you get soaked, you still have dry shoes, and a dry shirt after the ride.

I tend to wear sports gear round the parks. A light tennis or excercise shirt (usually Adidas climalite or Nike Drifit) and a pair of light shorts, again Climalite or Drifit. I then have a pair of Nike Air sandals which I purposely bought for wearing to the parks, they are very comfortable and I would recommend trying to get hold of a pair of 'airs' to cushion you when doing all that walking. If I get wet, I dry out very quickly :)

I wear those ugly brown comfortable sandals with the strap around the heel that I would not be caught dead wearing anywhere else. They have a suede like bottom and dry very easily. They have never given me a blister, unlike flip fops and tennis shoes. For the rest of your body, nylon anything. My boys always wear swim trunks as they are constantly wet.

The Adidas Climalite is a great fabric for the heat, not a great fan of the Drifit from Nike though. Done all my testing in Spain well into the 100's :umbrella:
