Hi there!

We're excited to be arriving this week from chilly -25° Wisconsin! We’re wondering if we’ll need a light jacket for the evenings outside. Should we pack a sweatshirt jacket, a jean jacket, or a sweatshirt?

This is our first trip to Hawaii, and we can’t wait!

Thanks so much for your help!

It looks like there may be rain, but if it’s dry then it will be in the mid to high 60s at night.

To me, that’s a light pullover.

I wear a light jacket in the evening, like a track jacket, but I'm the type of person who is always cold. My wife and kids do not usually wear any sweater or jacket.

Have fun on your trip. My family loves going to Aulani and we will be there again in June

You should check the forecast for Ko Olina Hawaii on your favorite weather website. It will give you a good indication of the temperatures you will probably encounter while you are at Aulani. Then judge for yourself as to if you think that's cold.

We've never found it to be very cool at night in our 6 visits to Aulani at various times of the year.

I never needed one in December, it was a comfortable low 70s at night. But check the weather report, you might want a sweatshirt or light jacket.

Whatever light sweatshirt or long-sleeve t-shirt you'll wear on the airplane will probably be fine for the evenings and you might not even need that. We've always gone in February and I don't think I've ever been in long sleeves.

Keep in mind that 1) you'll be jet-lagged and 2) stuff tends to close early both at the resort and in Hawaii overall, so you won't really have too much "evening" time to fill. Use the jet lag to your advantage (get up super early to beat crowds, eat dinner during happy hour specials, etc.) rather than trying to FULLY adjust to Hawaii time.

We visited in August and appreciated bringing our jumpers/hoodies when it got dark. It’s not as hot and humid as, say, Florida and can cool down quite a bit in the evenings, especially with the trade winds. That said, we never found it to be cold.

I"m packing right now, and wondering the same thing. I tend to get chilly at night, so just wondering if I need to pack more than than one light sweater. Forecast for our trip shows upper 60s at night. We hope to be getting out in the early morning for outings too.

We're limited on luggage space and really trying to pack as light as possible. I think I"m going to go take out a few shirts right now. We will have a washer/dryer. I'm so used to just packing Disney t-shirts/Star Wars shirts for our usual Disney trips and/or Harry Potter shirts for Universal.....not sure how to pack for this. We're mostly doing outdoor activities, hiking, etc. so I assume T-shirts/skorts good for that too?

Just bring a couple of layering items that don't need to be washed with every use. Something like a Patagonia quarter-zip. And if you're going to be hiking you should have a packable waterproof rain jacket.

You should also make sure you have appropriate footwear. Even "easy" trails in Hawaii that aren't especially strenuous can have mud and ruts from the rainfall, so you would ideally have some sturdy shoes. We like Merrell MOAB mids.

And this is very personal and most people would probably disagree, but I don't really like to wear t-shirts in Hawaii unless I'm doing something active. I would go more towards "resort casual" rather than "theme park casual," meaning aloha shirts and nice sandals rather than t-shirts and sneakers.

Well, I don't know what "skorts" are, but I usually pack shorts, t-shirts, 2 hoodies, and a single aloha short for an 8 or 9-day trip. The only difference I wear for hiking vs. casual/at-the-resort is tennis shoes vs. flip flops.

Thank you for the tips and suggestions. We actually left Saturday before I saw his….and you are totally right about the nicer wear/ resort casual..I wish so, so much I’d brought a couple more nicer shirts, esp for pictures. Our tennis shoes survived diamondhead, but since DH plans on a lot more hiking in the coming years, East TN, we’re going to invest in some much better shoes.
Thanks again for info ! ,
