What to wear in early June?

I notice that the averages for Anaheim in early June are high 70s during the day and mid-high 50s at night. About what time do those generally hit? Are there any other typical weather conditions to anticipate in early June?
High winds? How about during EMHs at 7:00 am? Does it warm up quickly once the sun comes up? Cool down quickly after sunset?

We are trying to avoid starting out in jeans and then needing shorts by 10:00 am. ;) Any helpful ideas from the So. Californians would be greatly appreciated!

Hi ebenmax,

For June weather, I would suggest shorts, tank tops and t-shirts. June, July, and August can get pretty hot here in California. As far as EMH's it can be nice but it can warm up quickly. At Disneyland during the summer months it usual get warmer in the afternoon (around 2 PM to 4 PM) and then cools off. If you plan on going back to your hotel for a mid-day rest, I recommend during the time frame up above. With all this being said, it may be wise to bring a light jacket with you just in case. :) Have a great time. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thank you for your thoughtful advice. We are planning an afternoon break around those times. You need to rejuvenate for the evening! Will it still be shorts weather for the evening hours?
Thanks again!

Hi,

It very well could be shorts weather in the evening hours. It all depends on your own preference. Do you get hot easily? If you do wearing shorts is probably a good idea. My mom and I wear shorts to the parks during later hours and we are comfortable. If you get cold easily, you might want to wear something a little warmer or at least bring a jacket. The weather can still be semi-warm when the sun is going down but it gets cooler from like 8 PM on. Lately, the weather has been unpredictable, it can be hot one day and cold the next day. Hope this helps. Again, have a great trip!

We were there the first week of March. We started the day (EMH was 9am) in shorts and t-shirts. We went back to the hotel around 1-2, changed into pants and grabbed jackets to head back around 4ish. We didn't need jackets until the sun started to set.

Light weight loose fitting cotton or linen. 50 50 cotton/synthetic is ok too. Darker colors are better than white.
Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen (At least 15 spf) and water.
Whatever you do just make sure your clothing isn't so loose that either you have a mishap on a ride or you end up showing your bvds to all around, including those wonderful :faint: eyes in the sky (And everywhere else too lol)

We were there at Spring Break this past March and we wore shorts and t-shirts everyday.....we just brought a light weight hoody to wear in the early morning or during the evening if it was a bit cool.

I've seen it cooler in the mornings, then warm to hot in the afternoons and then it would get cold enough that we needed jeans and hoodies in the night. The June Gloom is really a weird thing. Don't underpack jeans and hoodies or you will be buying them at Disney.

June Gloom!! Oh no! Is this a yearly event? Does "gloom" mean cloudy/rainy too or just cooler temperatures?

June Gloom just means fog in the morning. It burns off by 1.

Anyway, I'd wear layers. Yes, as any true so cal resident will tell you, layers is the way to go. It will hit 70s and even 80s depending on the day. Usually it feels warmest around 2-3 PM in my experience. 50-60 is going to be your middle of the night temperature, like around 4AM. Unless you're used to Florida warmth, you'll be fine in shorts, a t-shirt, and a sweatshirt for the early morning and night. Maybe bring a pair of pants for night. I usually wear crop pants that can be rolled up as it gets warmer, then rolled down at night so I don't have to drag extra clothes.

It usually feels a little warmer in the parks during the day than in the rest of the area. I think it's due to the concrete and the numbers of people creating body heat. Anyway, I've found that Disneyland 70s feels more like in the 80s to most people.

June Gloom can be your friend! It is really nice to get lots done in the parks in the morning without worrying about overheating. As others have said, the trick is to layer, layer, layer. A light jacket or a sweater can be worn in the morning and stuffed in a bag or tied around your waist for later in the day or for rides/restaurants/shops with super efficient a/c. (Sitting under the vents at Carnation Cafe gets me every time!) It can cool off quickly after the sun goes down, so having something extra to keep you warm can really help. If you are planning on seeing any shows that require waiting (e.g. WOC, F!), the inactivity can make you be glad to have a jacket. For me, something like the packable primaloft vests/jackets from Lands End work really well. They are super lightweight, warm-but-not-hot, and pack up easily into their own pouch (makes a great cushion when waiting for WOC).

June Gloom does not = rain. the other posters are totally spot on. June Gloom just means there's a marine layer (aka fog/clouds) in the morning & it burns off in the afternoon. How early in the afternoon it burns off depends on how far away from the beach you are. So Anaheim's marine layer will burn off before it does at Newport Beach, for example.

My DH is much more warm blooded than I am, so in June in Anaheim, he wears shorts & tshirts. I usually wear something like capri pants and a tshirt. I'll stash sweatshirts for me, ODD, & YDD in a locker for the evening after the sun goes down. We didn't really need the sweatshirts at rope drop in the morning.

Thank you for clarifying June Gloom! Overcast skies can definitely be a good thing when you are on the path from ride to ride! We will probably end up liking it.
I'm an evening sweatshirt kind of gal while several others in our party will be in shorts and Ts the whole time! Based on these great suggestions, I think we will be packing appropriately!
Thanks tons!

DW gets cold some evenings (she gets cold easily) but otherwise short and tees are the norm. It can get breezy some evenings.

Don't forget the sunblock though. Even with the gloom you can get a burn if you are the type that burns.

I get cold easier than most, so I am typically in pants and a t-shirt every day, while bringing a light sweater along. If it looks like the day will be on the hotter side, I pack some lightweight shorts in the backpack in case I need to change.

I've never been in June when we didn't have June Gloom. But it's been years since I've been that time of year. Layers are the answer. I've taken to wearing a long-sleeved running-type lightweight pullover (the kind with a tall neck and zipper at the top) in the mornings at the park. Does that make sense? I've bought them at Old Navy in the activewear section. They aren't super warm, but they fight off the chill in the air and are very easy to either tie around your waist or throw in a bag because they take up a lot less space than a sweatshirt.

Would most of this advice apply for the last week of May as well? The 10 day forecast is just about to the beginning of our trip (we arrive on Memorial Day), and I realize they aren't super accurate beyond a few days out - but it just seems like the weather isn't as warm as I would've thought. Should I expect it to stay in the mid-upper 60s/low 70s (lows in the upper 50s) through the end of the month? It doesn't make a huge difference for us (we're from AK so that weather is like our summer weather!) but I was also kind of hoping to see some higher temps too, I miss hotter weather! Haha!

This has been a very unusual spring for us. By this time of the year we are usually in the 80's but today is rainy and 60's. It is definitely cooler than usual right now, not sure how long that will last.

I remember about 10 years ago when DH graduated college and we were sweating and getting sunburned in the 90's for the ceremony. This year graduation was supposed to be tomorrow but they have postponed it to Sunday because of a chance of lightning. Very weird indeed.
