What to wear in August?

Planning on eating out at some of the more upscale restaurants including California Grill, Jikos and Tchoup Chop when we visit next August.

Can men get away with khaki shorts for evening dining or do they wear long trousers? Again can women do the same or do they need a more formal sundress?

Obviously want to travel with minimum stuff but at the same time we need to feel comfortable eating out. Is there an official code at these sort of places?

We like to dress up a little bit, but if you choose not to, you won't be the only ones. You certainly won't be made to feel uncomfortable.

The only 'rule' at the upscale Disney restaurants is no tank tops (sleeveless tops) for men. The exception is V&As where men must wear a jacket.

When we ate at Jiko in August DH wore a short sleeved shirt and smart 3/4 length trousers. I had a skirt and a T shirt type top on and we felt comfortable yet smart "enough".

I agree with what Deb says though - you won't be made to feel uncomfortable whatveer you wear! (within reason, LOL)

If we go out in the evening we do dress smarter, however, I have never ever wore long trousers anywhere in Florida so I am sure you will be fine.

I would suggest you dress up a little though, :) - although never be surprised at what other people wear.

Sunscreen and as little as possible! Light cotten fabrics, sunglasses and a big smile!

It's my understanding that shorts are NOT acceptable at CG. However casual khaki trousers and a polo top would be fine there.

Found this quote from another thread on this topic:

"Upscale resort restaurants change dress code to Business Casual! No hats, swim suits, swim suit coveralls, tank tops, T-shirts, torn clothing or flip-flops. You can wear - dress shorts, pants, jean pants, collared shirts, blouses, sweaters, pants. Restaurants now requiring Business Casual include: Artist Point (Wilderness Lodge), California Grill (Contemporary), Citricos and Narcoossee's (Grand Floridian), Jiko (Animal Kingdom Lodge), Flying Fish (Boardwalk), and Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club)."

I'm not sure how strict Disney is on enforcing the dress codes though.

that's interesting because when we made reservations at the California Grill, they specifically said "no shorts".

We were told "No Shorts" too when we booked but there were several guests wearing grubby shorts, vests, flipflops etc and really spoiling what is supposed to be a fine dining establishment. Sadly we felt CG did not live up to it's reputation - food wise or atmosphere. Worst of all were the children rampaging around and screaming - and being allowed to.

i totally agree with you. We had a similar experience.

Every year Dh and myself take a pair of 'smart' jeans to wear with nice top for nights out.

Every year we bring them back unworn- because its too hot :confused3

When will we learn ???
:goodvibes
