What to wear for Dapper Day?

Thanks. I'll check all three of those links out!
Shoes are a whole other drama! My husband keeps egging me on to wear heels the whole day. I wear them at work, but I'm not standing/walking the entire time, so it's much more manageable. Id love to, so my outfit would look great, but I seriously doubt I could make it all day. Then, I don't want to be stuck carrying an extra pair of shoes around.
For those who took extra shoes, did you bring a purse big enough for them? Usually my DH brings a backpack, but I know he will be all, "it doesn't go with my outfit"

If you are heart set on heels I recommend ball room dancing shoes. They have a vintage styling , low heel and sparkly too. I have wore mine for hours without any issues.

Thanks, I didn't even think of anything like that, I will check them out.

I wore platform heels...not too high...last Dapper Day with my evening dress. They seemed comfortable when I first went out in them but it didn't take long for my feet to start swelling which made the strap part right above my toes start digging into my foot. Ugh! I couldn't wait to get out of them. Walking around in the parks is nothing like being at work or going out to dinner. I'm sticking with comfort this time around. 2 members of my party ended up at the First Aid station the next day for high heel-induced foot trauma :rotfl:

I had great luck with my daytime shoes, though! They were super comfortable and fairly cute. I found them at Ross for $6, I think. They were red ballet flats made from some kind of rubbery stuff and they had straps that crossed over the top and buckled around the ankle. I got a lot of compliments on them. They were waterproof, too!

We rented a locker and put all of our extras in. It was a GREAT idea, as we had various things we changed out throughout the day and it was a good place to keep purchases.

At September dapper day I wore a pair of platform espadrilles that were actually made by Croc. They don't look like those clunky plastic crocs clogs, though, and the color matched my dress perfectly. They were open toe, sling back, and because they were crocs, they were super comfortable. I wore them from rope drop to park close that day, and it was 102 degrees!

Those were crocs Kangamama??? I never would have guessed! Very cute!

Oh, wait...I have a picture of kanga's green crocs! Her friend hand-painted some Keds to look like Oxfords. So cute!

Those do look comfortable. I found a dress, so now it's on to shoes. I decided on a peplum style 40s type of dress, and found the most adorable shoes, but they are 4 inch heels, so not gonna happen. I am also debating wearing a faux mink stole or a hat...or both :confused3

Oh yeah, any one have any idea of what the weather is generally like at the end of February?

It's kind of an "anything goes" deal. Average high is around 70, but it could be cold, could be rainy (unlikely this year), could be very warm. Usually, though, it's fairly cool during the day and chilly in the evening. *Note: I am a cold wienie and anything below 75 is cold to me!

We're having trouble figuring out how to coordinate outfits to be cool enough if the temps are up and warm enough when it's cold. Obvious answer is layers, but that's harder to pull off in dresses and typical rockabilly-type outfits. How do you keep your legs warm? How do you layer over a halter dress? Etc.

I am the same way. I am totally a desert person, so 75 and below is cold :lmao: It's like you want to dress in theme, but have to layer and look authentic? Stressful!

OMGosh!!!

I find dressing warmer is so much easier and way more fun,

Think tights, stockings, old fashion rago underthings, petticoats, slips... feminine cardigans with swater clips. a fur wrap or collars, boyfriends letterman jacket, belted coats. Opera gloves, hats sraves and if it really cold a fur muff for your hands.

I love winter fashion :lovestruc

I am debating wearing a fur stole or wrap, but I'm afraid it's going to get hot and then I'll be sweating my buns off :lmao:

Check out modcloth.com. They have really cute vintage dresses, accessories, etc!

What I also like about modcloth is that they allow customers to leave reviews with pictures & measurements (bust, waist, & hips) so you could get a good idea of what the dress would look like on you if someone has similar measurements.

Have fun, I really wish I could go to Dapper Day! :)
Alaska is way to far away from Disney... Also, I'm knee-deep in college expenses :(

Thanks! I just checked them out for accessories, and saw the reviews on some shoes, those are helpful!

Another really big plus with modcloth is they allow you to return your item for free. You just stick it back in the bag it came in, which is designed for that, go online and request a return label and print it up, stick it on and put it in the mail. I don't know of any of the other sites that give you free return shipping. I bought my dress from Modcloth, and I read the reviews that it ran large but they only had one size left and I figured it would work. Unfortunately, it didn't and I had to send it back. Disneyluvr2 found the same dress for me in a smaller size on another site and I already knew how it would fit so I was able to order it in the correct size. I would've loved to have gotten it from MC because they've been very good to me but they were sold out. I had a similar experience with a dress last Dapper Day. It was gorgeous but the first one was too big so I sent it back and ordered it in a small. The small was too small! I had to send it back, too, and really appreciated that Modcloth did not charge me for either return.

Modcloth will give you $15 off your first purchase ($30 or more) if referred by a friend. If anyone needs that, post here and one of us can do that for you. That person also gets $15 off so it's a win-win.

What amazing ideas--you are so creative!!

So many great links and ideas in this thread. Thank you! :goodvibes

Is anyone going with a more casual look rather than the more formal, pin-up type look? Or would we be really out of place doing that?

Also, does anyone have good ideas for vintage fashion for the "non-vintage" body? I am a plus size girl and don't really have a defined waist. It seems that everything I find will not look flattering on me in the least. :(

Last question! Would shoes like these look ok with a cute skirt? I am a barefooter at heart and the idea of wearing cute heels or even most ballet flats sounds painful!
