What to use to avoid lockers?

I do not want to have to use lockers at every ride. I am trying to figure out what to use & would like to hear what others used to carry their stuff. I would have my iPhone, small camera, sunglasses, park tix, $, room key. I looked at a small wrist wallet, but that won't hold camera or phone. I am thinking about getting a waist bag, but would prefer something slim (not bulky like fanny packs).
What do you suggest?

FWIW the required use of lockers is not, by any means, at every ride. There are plenty of rides where you can carry your bag.

And two of the big rides now don't allow anything but prescription glasses and a lanyard to hold your express pass/keycard. (Hulk and Rip Ride) So with that you'd be back to a locker, even carrying something small.

I won't be going on Hulk or Rip Ride. Probably not Dragon Challenge either.
Just wondering what waist packs other have used & liked.

I was just about to ask the same question. I'm so used to Disney where I can't think of a single ride I go on where I've been unable to carry on my bag (even simulators and coasters) that I'm getting worried about the way the bag issue will impact my day at Universal. What do people do - just resign themselves to needing to chuck their bags in a locker at each of the big/big-ish rides? Carry nothing at all and hope it doesn't rain? Have a designated pack mule at each ride who can just watch their stuff instead of riding? I'm not someone who carries much in the park - just my phone, camera, and ideally something in case it rains, we're not talking about bringing snacks to feed the whole park or anything - but I really don't want to have to add one more thing to mess around with.

There's only a few rides in each park that require lockers. Since you're not doing the huge rides, the only ride at IOA you'll need a locker for is Forbidden Journey. At USF, it'll be Men in Black, Mummy and Gringotts. I've never found the lockers to be that big of a hassle so I always just bring a bag.

I use a Kipling Multiple. We don't carry a lot of stuff with us at all at the parks at all.

Don't have to take it off as it has a 3 prong clasp and doesn't obstruct any restraints. I always took it off for RRR before you had to.

It does hold my little camera and some other items and room for sunglasses.

I wear a lanyard which has room key, EP and park tickets. I tuck that into my top on all coasters and drop rides.

On our first trip to universal last year, I felt the same! I tried to carry as little as possible and was annoyed at lockers. By the end of the trip I LOVED the lockers. I would check the time remaining on the locker following a ride and went to others before fetching my small bag. I loved being bag free!! However, there were things we just needed (medication, etc). Then there were the wet clothes from rides ... Just rented a locker and filled it up! Much better than being a pack mule or waiting for souvenir shopping to the end of the day when everyone was tired and crabby!

We are here now and have not used a locker yet. I have a smaller (but not tiny) fanny pack with my phone, tickets, sunglasses, credit cards, room keys. I have worn it on everything without a problem except Hulk and Rip Ride Rocket as I don't ride those two. However, my daughter also has a slim fanny pack and was allowed on Hulk with it yesterday. We rode MIB and Mummy numerous times yesterday and have never been asked to remove my fanny pack.

I would never be caught dead with a fanny pack any other time, but it is convenient in the parks.

What is the brand name of those fanny packs?

I have been looking at the Kipling Multiple bag.

Yep!

Totally no big deal IMO.

Is a small cross body purse allowed on most rides?

It's allowed on the rides that allow bags.

On the rides that don't, the ONLY thing allowed (apart from a lanyard with ticket/EP/etc) is a 3-prong, small, waist pack. They feel that those are out of the way of the restraints and are not going to go flying.

But recently, unless the TM isn't paying attention, they haven't even been allowing those on Hulk and RRR.

DD and I used runners belts and were able to wear them on everything. The hide under your shirt and have 3 prong clasps. They hold more than you think they would - I had tickets and my phone in one pocket, chapstick and other little things in the other one. Definitely loved being hands free.

If the link posts - these are the ones we had (running belt by Guthrie Gear)

Good to know. On my previous two trips (2011 and 2013) I was able to wear a fanny pack on everything, including Hulk and RRR. Sounds like I may need to adjust my strategy for my upcoming trip.

I quite enjoyed the lockers when I went on Forbidden Journey. I liked that I could use them for free lol, and the fingerprint technology was fun. I don't remember using them taking too much time or being a hassle or anything. To be fair, I went during a pretty slow day. What I didn't like about carrying a bag was the way everyone kept putting their stuff in it to the point that it was a million times heavier by the end of the day. I'm definitely telling everyone to hold their own stuff this time. :P

I use my small Kipling waistbag or no bag at all..Wristlets, crossbody ,slings are not allowed on the rides that do not allow bags,.On the big rides like RRR and Hulk, DH doesn't ride anyway so he holds the waistbag.I normally wouldn't be caught dead with a waistbag, but I HATE dealing with the lockers( I always seem to get stuck behind a large tour group trying to figure them out or shove HUGE packs into them).

We were there the week before Thanksgiving and I had a very small Coach cross-body bag and I was asked to put it in a locker on the few rides I tried to carry it on. I would imagine they'd do the same for a wristlet, since that's even more loose. This was in the beginning of our trip but after using the lockers for a few time, it was a quick and easy process. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to NOT carry a bag just to avoid the lockers. The only hiccup with the lockers was if there were a few people in front of you, but you can avoid this delay by choosing a locker at the furthest section where people don't tend to go.

FWIW, on Rip Ride Rockit, they actually checked my BF's back pocket of his jeans to make sure his wallet wasn't there. It was and they made him put it in a locker.

When travelling in Cedar Point (where they also don't allow bags on several coasters), I carry a small (flat and thin - I buy fabric ones specifically as the Coach style ones would be too big for this) crossbody bag. I tuck it under my shirt when in line and have never had a problem. Usually fits my tickets, my phone, some cash and maybe a chapstick. Was planning on doing this again in Universal. At worst, I'll put it in a locker. Or maybe I'll wear my cargo shorts and be truly handsfree :)

Surprised to hear about them bothering men with wallets in their back pockets. Will my DH be OK with his phone/wallet in a zippered side pocket?

I use straps for my sunglasses - is this allowed in Universal?

If they see the crossbody they will make you put it in the locker at the rides that make you use lockers. I use the same type (I got mine at a Coach outlet) and they made me put it up everytime. They also made my mom put her fanny pack in one.

I'm guessing if the pocket is zippered he'll be okay.

The sunglasses seem to vary in my limited experience. Most TMs seem okay with them if they have a strap, but some very strictly enforce the prescription glasses only rule. (My mom had to explain her sunglasses are prescription glasses at Rip Ride Rock-It for example.)

I use a Kipling waist bag. It's pretty slim and holds everything I need for the day: tickets, lip balm, money/credit cards, and camera.

In 2010, I never had to take it off. But Oct/Nov 2014, they made me use a locker on the Hulk and Rip Ride Rockit. On the Hulk, they even made my bf take his wallet out if his buttoned cargo pocket.

Thanks for the link! I ordered two for my husband and myself, and they came yesterday. I immediately made sure I could fit my Note 4 (w/ flip case) in it, which it did. I did get the "large pocket" version which said it fit larger phones.
