I am getting a haircut tomorrow and I will be asking her to blow my hair out straight. I usually tip this girl $5 for the haircut, but my hair is mid-back length and VERY thick so blowing it straight will be pretty labor intensive. I was thinking tipping $10, is that too much, too little? The haircut cost will be around $36.

Thanks!

Yikes! $36 for a haircut? Here the charge for shampooing and conditioning, cut, blowdry and curling iron is $16. I usually tip $3 for that.

If you think the job is worth $10, then give her that. That's what I tip the girl who does my hair when she gives me a perm.

I usually tip 20% too. Since she will be doing a job that requires the extra time, I think the $10 would be greatly appreciated.

With that said, I have to say YIKES....$36 for a cut and blow dry is a lot. I only pay $9!

Mish actually $36.00 sounds about right for long hair.

I would tip her 20% thats a $7.00 tip, now if you feel she has done an extra good job and spent some time on you I would give her the $10.00.

I think where you live makes a big difference in the price. Thats the going rate in my area. Some of the more exclusive salons charge more.

$10.00 sounds about right. Around here haircuts at the nicer salons are anywhere between $35 and $50. If you go into Chicago to the REALLY upscale salons they are $100-$300 for a cut.
